We love our School Board!
January is School Board Appreciation Month in Washington state, and it's important for our community to know that the Lake Stevens Board of Directors is highly involved working on behalf of students and staff to support education locally and at the national level.

"Our community is fortunate to have five dedicated board members who work collaboratively in our community, state and at the federal level advocating for the best interests of our children," said Dr. Amy Beth Cook, Superintendent of Lake Stevens School District. "Public education is their passion and as individuals they dedicate time and resources for our students."

The goal of the entire board is to represent its community and to provide the very best education for each and every student in Lake Stevens schools. At the state and federal level, its goal is to communicate with senators, representatives and stakeholders to directly represent and advocate for the district's vision for public education.

Is school a go? How will you know?
In emergency situations, such as snow and icy weather conditions, our top priority is the safety of students and staff. We also recognize that school delays and closures disrupt family schedules and the school year may have to be extended. The decision to close schools is not an easy one. The process is complex and involves many people.

A team of staff members are out in the wee hours of the morning assessing buildings and bus routes to ensure that students and staff can get to and from school safely and will have a comfortable learning environment. Our district is large and weather and road conditions often vary from one side of the district to the other.

In the event of a school delay or closure families will be notified through:
When schools are cancelled, afternoon and evening events and community facility rentals are also cancelled. Please review our bus snow routes.

No announcements means that schools are operating on normal schedules!
We've got an app for that

P-5 Campus
Work continues on schedule for the new Early Learning Center (ELC) and Stevens Creek Elementary School. The ELC is scheduled to open in fall of 2017 and Stevens Creek is scheduled to open in January 2018.

Lake Stevens High School Design Advisory Committee
The Design Advisory Committee (DAC) is in the final stages of its work on the vision and educational specifications for the modernization and expansion of Lake Stevens High School (LSHS). The DAC is made up of representatives from each of the many programs, departments, groups and organizations that work in and use our facilities. There are also three high school students on the DAC. One of the group's recent activities involved spacial planning and development of the possible footprint of the expanded high school. Check it out!

LSHS will be modernized and expanded, in phases, while students are on campus. This work will begin in the summer of 2018 and is anticipated to last for at least three school years.

Proposed Elementary School Boundaries
Last week, proposed elementary school boundaries were shared with families, staff members and the community for review prior to a vote by the Board of Directors at its Jan. 25 meeting. We want to allow more time for the Board to review the proposed boundaries, and to consider the considerable feedback and questions both they, and the school district, received.

At its Jan. 25 meeting the Board will continue discussion on the proposed boundaries but will not vote on the recommendation until its Feb. 8 meeting.

If you have not yet reviewed the proposed boundaries, please visit our district website, or come to the Educational Service Center, 12309 22nd St NE, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Once the Board adopts new elementary school boundaries, decisions will be made about middle school boundaries, in-district variances and special programs housed in our elementary schools.
