Revised wellness policy aligns with national standards to support health of students
New guidelines affect all items sold in schools
Snacks, beverages and la carte items across Lake Stevens School District have a new look and taste. They are now richer in whole grains, fruits and vegetables with fewer calories, fat, sugar and sodium. The changes align with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Smart Snacks in Schools Guidelines and the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which impact more than 100,000 schools throughout the nation.
Those items that don't meet the guidelines are no longer available in schools. This includes food sold in school vending machines during the school day.

Flu shots available 10/15 & 10/22 Shots available to children and families
The Lake Stevens School District is committed to helping keep our students, parents and our community healthy throughout the entire flu season. That's why we have partnered with the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association to provide two flu shot clinics for our district on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cavelero Mid High School and Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lake Stevens High School. Clinics will be open to all Lake Stevens School District children (four-years-old and older) and their families.
All participants will be asked to provide their health insurance information (card) to receive an immunization. SVNA will electronically bill the insurance plan for your flu shot. They bill all insurance plans including Apple Health (Washington State Medicaid) plans. Flu shots are considered preventative care and are not subject to deductibles or co-pays. This means no out-of-pocket expense for participants. More information

Be prepared for inclement weather Understand school delays and closures
In emergency situations, such as snow and icy weather conditions, our top priority is the safety of students and staff. We also recognize that snow days disrupt family schedules and the school year may have to be extended. The decision to close schools is not an easy one. The process is complex and involves many people.

Navigating e-flyers with Peachjar How to customize your email preferences
As you know, the paper flyers we have been sending home are now being sent electronically to your inbox through Peachjar. Each school's website also has a Peachjar button where you can view these flyers. Did you know? You can log in to your Peachjar account using your email address to set the frequency of the emails you receive (daily or weekly). If you've forgotten your password, click on the "Forgot Password" link and follow the prompts.
Problems registering? If you've tried to register for a Peachjar account, you may have noticed that not all of our schools are listed. The mapping system used by the company lists several of our schools in Everett. This is being fixed and should be resolved by Sept. 23.
