Warmer Weather May Level Miller Road Bumps

As many commuters and residents are aware, the cold temperatures have reeked havoc on area roads and especially our newest County project, the land bridge along Miller Road (North Barrington).

Lake County's Division of Transportation engineers and I believe that with the warmer temperatures - hopefully on the way! - the ripples in the pavement, due to the frozen ground protruding upward, will level out and the road will settle. If not, we will have the contractors come back out and address the pavement.

Thank you for your patient this winter. It has been awful on our roads!
Roberts & River Roads Intersection Improvement

Speaking of road improvements, our district will soon undergo a major intersection revamp at Roberts and River Roads in Lake Barrington.

This Spring, Lake County, in conjunction with the State of Illinois, will redevelop the intersection into a modern roundabout. This new rotary will improve traffic flow and reduce the possibility of t-intersection accidents.

If you have questions or would like to learn more about the project, please attend the Lake County Division of Transportation's (LCDOT) Construction Public Information Meeting being held to present the construction schedule and detour plan. The meeting will be conducted on an informal, open-house basis. Exhibits will be on display and LCDOT representatives and construction consultants will be present to provide information and answer questions.

This special pre-construction meeting is scheduled for:

Date:         Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Time:         5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location:   Lake Barrington Village Hall
23860 Old Barrington Road, Lake Barrington
Other County Construction Updates

Washington Street Closed for Four Months

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) recently closed Washington Street to through traffic from Cedar Lake Rd., to Hainesville Rd., for a four month project. The closure is necessary as part of the Washington St. reconstruction and widening project. In the fall of 2013, Washington St. was reconstructed from Cedar Lake Rd. to Linden Drive. The upcoming closure is to complete the reconstruction from Linden Drive to west of Hainesville Rd.

Detour Route: Cedar Lake Rd., to IL Route 134 to IL Route 120 to Hainesville Rd. For additional information regarding this project please visit washingtonstreetinfo.com

Fairfield & Rt. 176 (Wauconda)
This major area intersection will continue to be worked on throughout 2014. For detailed information, construction and traffic updates visit www.fairfield176.com.

Route 53 & Route 120 Expansion
Serious progress continues to be made on the BUILD 53 front. The Blue Ribbon Commission, assembled two years ago, along with the group's Finance Committee continues their work with the Illinois Tollway Authority to study funding alternatives and feasibility. For more information click here.
IDOT - State Road Construction Info

In addition to this being a busy construction season for the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will also be out conducting road improvements. I do not have control or a say in State roadwork or planning, but I do want to inform you of State road improvements that may impact your commute this spring.

Here are a few State projects I am aware of:

IL Route 22 - East of IL Route 59

Last fall, LCDOT, IDOT and I worked out a deal to delay a portion of IDOT's repaving of Route 22 during the county's Miller Road bridge work. IDOT has indicated that they will be back out some time this spring to complete the repaving of Route 22, East of Route 59. They completed repayment of Route 22 from Route 14 to Route 59 in the fall.

IL Route 12 at Old McHenry Road
IDOT road workers will return again this spring to conclude their intersection improvement work. I believe they're time frame to complete the leftover work is just 45 days.

IL Route 176 between Wauconda & Island Lake
This State road project will continue throughout the coming months as IDOT tries to wrap up work ASAP.
