District Road Work Underway

Detour

We have had some significant road improvement plans approved by the County Board for our area this year. These projects can cause some short-term pain, but will improve the condition of our county roads and make commuting throughout the region and our District easier in the near future.

To keep you informed, I'd like to share a brief update on some of the Lake County road improvements underway:

CUBA ROAD - East of Route 59 & West of Ela Road
This project required the closing of Cuba Road in order to replace a culvert. The Road has been shutdown for more than a week and the replacement project is almost complete. Cuba Road should be back open very soon.

MILLER ROAD - East of Route 59 (between Glen Circle & Biltmore Drive)
Miller Road was closed to thru traffic on Monday morning. The land bridge being constructed at the road's lowest point, to prevent flooding, will be completed in mid October. The project's resulting detour has created some traffic backups along Route 59, Route 22 and Route 12/Rand Road. These are all State Roads and not under the control of Lake County. I have asked our Lake County Division of Transportation, however, to contact the Illinois Department of Transportation and investigate whether traffic signal times could be adjusted to alleviate some of the detour gridlock. Whether or not the state complies, please use caution and give yourself extra travel time when using these roads.

Your patience and understanding as the County undertakes these important projects are appreciated.

Forest Preserves News

At our July meeting, the Lake County Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners purchased a 1-acre addition to Hastings Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Villa.  The preserve is currently under construction with a pending opening in late fall 2013.

Though small in size, the parcel of land provides the missing link needed to complete a 2-mile trail loop around the preserve's 80-acre lake offering big benefits for trail users. Construction of boardwalks and a few sections of new trail to connect the trail loop will begin in August. Check the Forest Preserve website (LCFPD.org) for information on the preserve's opening date.
