Class Configurations for 2013-2014 School Year

Each year, Welches teachers work thoughtfully at creating class configurations that best meet the needs of our students. There are many factors we consider - the most important being the academic, social and emotional needs of our students. Other considerations include grade level enrollment, gender balance, and staffing.

For next year, we are providing the following classroom placements for students:

  • Kindergarten - Ms. Bomar
  • 1st grade - Mrs. Burke
  • 1/2 blend - Mr. Winans
  • 2/3 blend - Mrs. Well
  • 3/4 blend - Mrs. Nobel
  • 4/5 blend - Mrs. Knowles
  • 5/6 blend - Mr. Wallace
  • 6th grade - Mrs. King

The blended classes will allow us the flexibility to provide our 1st-6th grade students the greatest degree of academic opportunity and options. This is a change from our current 6th-8th grade model, but we believe we can best meet the academic and developmental needs of our 6th grade students with the blended model. Band will also be provided as an option for 6th grade students.

We will continue to provide the traditional middle school model for our 7th & 8th graders. This includes core classes in Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Health/PE. Enrichment opportunities will also be provided for 7th & 8th graders which may include Band, Physical Fitness, Environmental Science, Technology or academic support.

Specific class placement lists will be available before the school year begins.

Middle School Band Concerts

On Tuesday, June 4, the Advanced and Beginning Bands will give two performances in the multi-purpose room.  The first concert is for a school assembly at 2:30 p.m.  Students will also perform an evening concert for families at 7:00 p.m.  Please mark this important date on your calendars.  We look forward to playing for you on June 4th
LOST & FOUND OVERFLOWING!
Please stop by the school to check for lost & found items. We have huge piles of jackets, sweatshirts and other items. Items from both schools are available to look through at the elementary office. If items are not retrieved by the end of the year, they will be donated to charity.

SCHOOL CHARGES

Remember that all lunch charges and fines must be paid by the last day of school. In addition, all library books and classroom textbooks must be returned or paid for by June 12th. These fines must be resolved in order for 8th graders to participate in end of year promotion activities.

End of Year Medication Pick-Up

Please make arrangements for picking up your child's unused medications before Friday, June 14. Medication left at school must be returned to the parent or be destroyed at the end of the school year per district policy.
