What's in a Brand?

A brand is much more than a name: it's the sum total of a customer's experiences with that product or company. A brand name can lend credibility to a new product or service, gives the customer a comfort level about quality and often commands a higher price.

Selling Name Brand Merchandise

In addition to the reasons listed aboe, a brand name is a recognized entity. In a reward or recognition program, recipients may be suspect of no-name or generic reward merchandise. Proposing brand name products for your customers to use in reward, recognition and gift programs offers the following additional benefits:
  • Higher perceived value (the recipient often has a perceived value in mind for a particular brand, ideally purchased from the manufacturer at a corporate discount)
  • Reflective of the corporate brand (when chosen intentionally, name brands offer the opportunity to reinforce the company's brand attributes as well)
  • Trophy Value (recipients are already likely to tell others about tangible rewards that they receive; brand name rewards make it that much more likely - especially when receiving a luxury or high-end brand reward. This means additional recognition and exposure for the sponsoring company; higher engagement for the recipient).
According to a recent Nielsen's Global New Product Innovation Survey, 59% of consumers prefer to buy a new product from a brand that is familiar to them. Likewise, 21% said they would purchase a new product solely because it was from a brand they liked. Why would your customers or their recipients be any different?

Because most brands elicit a strong reaction, using name-brand merchandise to reward or recognize customers and employees makes those gifts or rewards that much more powerful.
