Academic Honors
Two seniors, Austin Schick and Mia Brosius, have been named semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Mia and Austin were among the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of N.C. Carolina's high school seniors. Both will continue in the competition for the chance to receive a scholarship. In addition, Austin along with fellow senior Victor Cardeno have been honored as National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars. They scored in the top 2.5 percent among Hispanic and Latino students who took the PSAT. Congrats to all three students!

Fall Sports Review
Gibbons' Fall 2015 transition to N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4A classification membership (PAC Six Conference) included each fall varsity team earning state playoffs berths. The women's golf team secured the school's first 4A state championship (after winning the 2014 3A title), while volleyball and women's cross country extended state championship streaks to seven and six, respectively. The men's cross country (third in state) and men's soccer (state quarter finalist) teams contributed Wells Fargo Cup points, as did the state quarter finalist women's tennis team. The football team reached the postseason for the eighth straight season, and field hockey concluded a historic campaign in the N.C. Field Hockey Association state semifinals.

 Preparing for the Future
There was additional excitement at Gibbons early one recent evening. The reason? Something new was added to the traditional lineup of after-school activities. And that something new was Application Assistance Night, for 8th grade students and families applying for the Cardinal Gibbons High School class of 2020. More

Student Spotlight:
For Alex Longo the sky is NOT the limit - really! Fascinated with space exploration this Gibbons
sophomore's goal is to walk on Mars. His fascination started when he was five years old and watched a space shuttle launch with his mom. Since then,
he has worked on four projects in partnership with NASA;  had a blog entry posted on the website of The Planetary Society, a national nonprofit group; and was interviewed for an article in Popular Science Magazine. This year, Alex also started the Space Exploration Club at Gibbons, which he spoke about in an interview with NASA.

                 Gibbons Prepares for Christmas

Advent is a time for our school community to come together in joyful celebration of Christ's birth at Christmas as well as to renew ourselves and our commitment to serve others. There are many ways, big and small, that we prepare for Christmas at Gibbons.
Those ways range from attending special prayer services and musical performances, to enjoying traditions like setting up the Advent wreath display, and participating in seasonal outreach efforts, including the toy and clothing drive for under- privileged children, which this year collected $36,637 worth of clothes and toys for 93 children as well as gifts for 12 teachersMore

Let's come together as the Gibbons Community

Join us in support of keeping Gibbons strong. Every gift makes a difference & participation is important. Please join with other parents and contribute to Gibbons.
