Urban Debate Leagues Make History at the
2014 Tournament of Champions
Urban debate leagues celebrated unprecedented success at the Tournament of Champions held April 26-28, 2014 at the University of Kentucky. This year, debaters from six urban debate leagues across the U.S earned a total of 37 bids to the nation's premier high school debate tournament.

Ravon Dean and Brooke Kimbrough, (University Prep High School, Detroit), became the first urban debate league team to reach the TOC semi-finals. Dean, NAUDL's 2014 Debater of the Year, was awarded Top Speaker, and Kimbrough won 16th Speaker. Dean and Kimbrough were winners of the 2014 Urban Debate National Championship and the Cal Invitational - UC Berkeley Invitational.

Tyler Anderson, (ACORN Community High School, New York City), won 9th Speaker, and Jeron Dastrup (Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, Chicago) won 19th speaker.
