Seven Urban Debate Leagues Compete at NFL National Tournament

Baltimore Urban Debaters Finish in 12th Place
  
Chicago, IL - June 26, 2013 - Debaters from seven urban debate leagues competed in Policy Debate at the NFL National Speech and Debate Tournament tournament this past weekend. Urban debaters from Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Kansas City, New Jersey, Milwaukee and St. Louis competed.
  

Amena Begum and Joseph Gaylin of Baltimore City College High School (Baltimore Urban Debate League) finished in 12th place. Dikshant Malla, also from Baltimore City College High School, completes his high school debate career ranked third in the nation by the NFL as a top competitor in Policy Debate. Malla and his debate partner Sophie Bauerschmidt-Sweeney won the 2013 NAUDL Urban Debate National Championship.

 

The NFL National Speech and Debate Tournament marks the capstone of high school speech and debate activities for nearly 120,000 students around the nation. This year, more than 3,000 high school students from 967 high schools and more than 700 middle school students from 91 schools participated in the Tournament, in addition to students from 20 international schools.
