March is supposed to "come in like a lion", and for 2013, this is true for us in Tennessee.  The Lion is in, with cold, wet weather.  It makes me glad to be in a warm, dry, comfortable house.  I have friends who are out in the weather, however, experiencing the Lion firsthand.  There is a group of ladies starting their 2000+ mile journey by foot on the Appalachian Trail, hiking from Georgia to Maine, along with hundreds of other intrepid pilgrims.  They deserve a pat on the back, these travelers who routinely hike ten to twenty mile days while battling the cold at the higher elevations, wrapping themselves in layers of fleece and down at night.  Rock on, Summit Sisters!

I have been in their shoes--I mean hiking boots--and I will be again, as you will read a bit further down.  I have also done some kayak camping, and have traveled by more conventional means as well--by planes, trains, and automobiles.  I know from first hand experience that it is difficult to find high quality, convenient, affordable bath and body products for the journey.  Here at Coyote Cove we have been working the last few months on putting together a line of products especially geared to traveling, whether by foot, airplane, or boat.  We are proud to unveil this line today!  Check the "For The Journey" button on the left side of the homepage on our website to check out this new line.

All of these products are specially formulated and packaged.  Airlines enforce a four ounce limit on liquid products for carry-ons, and now you can  find Coyote Cove quality in smaller sizes.  For hikers, the new formulation of liquid soap is super concentrated, so that only a drop or two will work.  It can be used for your skin or hair, as well as for your clothes and dishes.  And it's all natural and biodegradable so that it is safe for back-country use.  The bar soap is our Oatmeal soap in a smaller size, to be more portable.  Other products in the new line include our Bug Voyage natural insect repellents and Jewelweed Poison Ivy soap in smaller sizes as well.

For part two of the big announcement promised in last month's newsletter, I plan on hiking the Appalachian Trail this year also!  I am not quite hardy enough to join the hikers who started in the Lion of early March, so I will be waiting for Lamb that comes at the beginning of April.  My hike starts on April first.  I will be gone for approximately six months, and Mike will be in charge of Coyote Cove until I return home in October.  One or more of our daughters will be helping him out at the craft shows, so stop by to see them and  give Mike some encouragement.  I know that I leave Coyote Cove in the best hands!  I will be writing the newsletters for May to October over the next few weeks, so you will continue to receive the newsletters while I'm on the trail.  I am very excited about this new adventure, and you know I will be using Coyote Cove products on the trail.  I hope that you are able to schedule some adventures of your own this year, and be sure to include our travel products in your backpacks!  (or suitcases!)

While I am on the trail I will be keeping an online trail journal to keep my family and friends current on my location and adventures.  You can read it at:

I have a few entries on there already,  about my preparations for the hike.  I may post a few more "prep" entries, but you can look for actual hiking journals after my start on April first.  Feel free to leave comments for me by signing the guest book, I will be reading them while on the trail, and I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Kathy Stephens
