Trinity Offers Prayers and Assistance

As most of you know, Trinity opened its doors for a special service of noonday prayer last Wednesday as across the street the body of the Rev'd and Hon. Clementa Pinckney laid in state. More than 200 people came by for noonday prayer, led by me, Patsy, and Calvin Griffin, rector of St. Luke's, Columbia. And we kept the Cathedral open all afternoon, ringing the bell and saying special prayers on the hour till Evening Prayer. The good work also continued as we gave cups of water and lemonade on the sidewalk to thirsty visitors. Attendees included members of Trinity, to be sure, but many who were not, including legislators, passersby, staff of the state house, and community citizens of every color and background. Trinity's service was featured on evening TV newscasts. Thanks to all who helped coordinate (see below).

Thank You

A warm thank-you to those who helped Trinity open the doors of our Cathedral to all for prayer and comfort, and for serving a cool refreshment in the heat of the day, during the afternoon that the Rev'd and Hon. Pinckney lay in state. Lisa Courson provided incredible direction and help in communicating with the State House. Clara Weston inspired us all by taking the ice water across the street - prompting thirsty, hot folks to walk over. When folks didn't come to us, Cravens Ravenel made two dozen trips across the street carrying 3 cups of lemonade at a time to those standing in line - and everyone followed suit. Andrella was right - the lemonade was welcomed and requested.  A special thanks to Dean Jones, Patsy Malanuk, Beebe James, Addie Thompson, Andrella Brunson, and her staff for making this simple yet meaningful effort possible. Many others offered the kindness of our Trinity home during a day of deep, unspeakable pain - and the promise of a better tomorrow.

Summertime!

The song says the "hazy, lazy days of summer!" Many of our parishioners are enjoying the Famously Hot summer of Columbia, or one of our great beaches or the cooler nearby mountains.  Summer is a time to slow down and refresh, but the expenses of our parish don't take a vacation!  Every day we need $8,000 to pay for the operations of the Cathedral.  Our wonderful staff likes to get paid regularly, just like you and me!

As we enjoy this summertime, let's remember to honor the blessings God has given us by continuing our financial support for His work in this parish.
