Ministry Friends Newsletter
May 2016

Dear Ministry Friend,

We want to start out with a great big THANK YOU. We are incredibly grateful for your support in prayers, financial gifts, encouragement, and connecting us with "gate keepers".

Announcement: We now have a Director of Development!

Please welcome our son, Joshua Meekins, as the Director of Development for this ministry - Champions4Parents! Joshua has graciously agreed to help us communicate this mission to individuals, foundations, and other audiences and invite them to join our ministry team.

Joshua works in the financial aid department of Liberty University and is married to our daughter-in-love, Kimberly. They are expecting their first baby in September.

Here are a few words from Joshua:
"Hello team, I am excited to jump on board with my parents to help grow Champions4Parents. Tom and Julie have a heart for working alongside families, speaking to groups, and investing their time to equip parents to combat the everyday struggles included in raising a family. My hope is to assist in such a way to help the ministry become fully funded, and maintain a level of strong partnerships with our supporters. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!" - Joshua Meekins

A word from a parent:
Julie, just letting you know that Joanna is engaged to a wonderful man, glowing with happiness, and planning to be married in October. She graduated from a 2 yr. college with honors, and is planning to finish her elementary ed. degree at Ohio State. She is also working at an inner-city preschool/daycare in Columbus, and absolutely loving it (hence the el. ed. degree). She still doesn't do math for fun, and her spelling is sometimes creative, but she is doing really well. Many thanks to you for all your help with the program. Blessings. Kathy Sharp

This young woman was a teenager when Julie first had the privilege of guiding her Mom to help in her development. What a privilege it was then to work with her and what a joy it is now to see what God has done. We want to open this opportunity to so many more parents and children.

Events and other ministry happenings:

May 18, 2016 - We are presenting a webinar entitled: "Parenting and Teaching the Child Who Struggles - Practical Strategies and Action Steps to Improve Daily Learning."

May 18, 2016 - The 2nd meeting of a monthly support group for special needs parents in Lynchburg, VA. The first meeting was emotional and empowering. We created a secret Facebook group for these folks to keep in touch with each other between meetings. They were very grateful.

May 27, 2016 - We have been invited to present a Seminar to parents at Belcroft Bible Church in Bowie, Maryland, from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. If you are interested in attending, we would love to see you there! Contact us for more details.

Prayer Point:
  1. Praise for Joshua stepping into the role of Director of Development for the ministry. We know Josh has many gifts and we are eager to see how God uses him in this role both for his own personal growth and also to move the mission forward for God's glory.
  2. Please pray for movement forward in strategic planning with ministry leaders and individuals. We want to gather leaders together for the express purpose of empowering them to serve families whose children have some struggles so these families can get a sense of "belonging" in faith-based communities.
  3. Please pray for more opportunities to speak both to groups of folks who we can invite to partner with us and also groups of parents who need the information and encouragement with which God has so richly blessed us.
  4. We would love to be able to host tables at conferences, conventions, and parenting events. Please pray that God would lay on the hearts of His people to partner with us in gifting the fees for these tables.
  5. Pray that our ministry financial needs would be met. We have a goal to be fully funded by July of this year. We are at 33% of our goal of $5,000 of monthly giving.

Thank you! We love having you on our ministry team!
