March Forth!
Note From Julie and Tom

Dear one,

Today is special for us because our daughter, Rebecca, is visiting from Dallas! This is the daughter who brings an atmosphere of "let's brainstorm about what really matters". We so love our deep conversations with her. At the same time, she is a "let's get the job done" kinda person. If there is a task to accomplish, Becs will be front and center to give ideas on how to do it in the most efficient way and she is always willing to put in sweat equity. Amy loves when Becca comes to visit because there is guaranteed to be late night viewings of episodes of old childhood tv shows and lots and lots of game playing for the two of them. We haven't see our Becca since January so these few days we get to spend with her are precious.

On the roster for today's eZine - be sure to check out:

A Simple Tip to a Calmer Kid: Get Messy

Julie Meekins

Do you let your kids get messy? Do you let them do things like finger painting with non-toxic paint or shaving cream, playing in mud, sloshing around in puddles, or helping you bake? Every experience your child has is input into the brain for development. We once heard a mom say, "I don't let my kids play with play dough, it is too messy." When a child can manipulate different substances with varying shapes, textures, temperatures and smells, new pathways are opening in the brain and new connections have opportunity to be made. This is all necessary for healthy development.

Believe it or not, letting kids get messy (with good supervision, of course) is a tip to a calmer kid.

March Forth Family Healthy Smoothies

Tom and Julie Meekins

Summer is in full swing for most of us and we are always looking for ways to bring healthy refreshment and nutrition to our families. This blog post has been taken over by our favorite smoothie recipes. We use our Vitamix blender to liquify our smoothies to just the right consistency. Enjoy!

1 cup almond milk (or coconut milk, coconut water, or yogurt)

1 banana
1 apple
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup raspberries
1 carrot
1 kale leaf
1 handful of baby spinach
2 cups ice cubes

1 banana

12 strawberries (fresh or frozen)

2 oranges (peeled)

4 cups spinach

2/3 cup plain Greek Yogurt

6-15 ice cubes

1 kale leaf and handful of spinach

2 carrots

1 cup coconut milk

1 cup plain Greek Yogurt

1 cup blueberries

1 apple

1 banana

15 ice cubes

2 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

1 banana

1/2 cup peaches (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup strawberries

1 tablespoon peanut butter

1/4 kale leaf

1/2 scoop protein powder

10 raspberries (fresh or frozen)

6 ice cubes

Note: We like to use fresh organic fruit as much as possible. Frozen works, too. Instead of the yogurt, we often usually use coconut milk or almond milk; both are great alternatives to dairy. Coconut water is also good for you and works well in a smoothie. Consider also adding chia seeds. All the above recipes make enough to serve at least 3-4 with some left over for later in the day. Enjoy!
