Gruschow family announces $100,000 Matching Challenge Gift

Uni alumni Catherine ('94) and George ('95) Gruschow are offering a $100,000 matching challenge gift to benefit Uni's Innovations in Learning fund.

The Gruschows have pledged to match major gifts up to $100,000 at 50 cents per dollar donated via a major gift by March 30, 2016.  A major gift is a pledge or gift of $25,000 or more.

Blaine Garst ('74) is the first alumni to step up to help meet the matching gift challenge with an $100,000 pledge over the next four years. With the matching funds from the Gruschows, that brings the challenge's current total to $150,000.

We appreciate the Gruschows' generous support and ongoing inspiring leadership for Uni.

Advancement Director Marianne Downey said that the Gruschows have historically been generous donors, but she was awestruck by the $100,000 matching gift challenge.  Downey said it is a wonderful example of the leadership Catherine and George have shown in support of Uni.

The funds will go toward the Innovations in Learning fund, which Uni is using to build state of the art active learning spaces, inform curriculum and train teachers to use new and emerging technologies. The project is in response to new research in education and a University of Illinois campus-wide drive to provide transformative learning experiences and foster scholarship, discovery and innovation.

The first phase of Innovations in Learning started with renovations in room 106N, which will continue this summer. Uni also held a faculty in-service devoted to active learning technology in January and is offering ongoing training opportunities for staff to make the transition to new technologies, teaching strategies and curriculum.
