Join us!

Welcome to our Celebrate Uni Alumni publication.  We love to receive updates from our alumni about their latest achievements and accolades.  Please enjoy these highlights showing that Uni's benefits don't stop on Graduation day - out students continue to shine long after they leave.

If you would like to share your accomplishments, awards, successes and stories with us for future editions of Celebrate Uni Alumni, please send them to Advancement Director Marianne Downey.

Rachel Harmon named Rhodes Scholar

Uni alum Rachel Harmon ('10) was one of only 32 people named as this year's Rhodes Scholars, and she was the only one from Illinois.  Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest international fellowship. Fellowships are awarded based on the applicants' outstanding scholarship, character, commitment to others and to the common good, and potential for leadership.

We are so proud that a Uni grad received this great honor.  Rachel is a role model for Uni students, and an example of what they can achieve.

Rachel was featured in a News-Gazette story for her accomplishment.

Mark Neely, Class of '89, won a Creative Writing Fellowship in Poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts. The award is given to support the arts and creativity to improve lives and communities in the United States, and allows published writers to set aside time for writing, research, travel and career advancement.

1988 Uni grad Paul Debevec and his team of digital image specialists from the University of Southern California were recently in Washington creating the first digital 3-D presidential portrait.  They were part of a Smithsonian-lead team working to create the 3-D portrait, a life mask and a life-sized bust of President Obama.

Josh Hopkins, Uni Class of '91, was featured in The News-Gazette for his work with NASA's Orion team. Hopkins is a space exploration architect with Lockheed Martin.

Jake Seeley ('08), co-authored an article in Science magazine on "Projected increase in lightning strikes in the United States due to global warming."

1999 Uni alum Luke Walczewski , Harvard Assistant Athletic Director, had the opportunity to meet with Panos Voulgaris (Class of 2016) at Harvard Soccer Camp.

Colin Althaus ('14) has released an album and is touring with the band Tara Terra. The band's first album, Daughter, was released in August, 2014.
