Still a "smoky" city

Dear Friend,

Cigarette smoking is one the most preventable factors that lead to chronic disease and death in the United States. While the national smoking rate has steadily declined over the past decade to 18.1%, those in Western Pennsylvania are slow to stub their cigarettes. In the latest numbers from the CDC, 22.4% of people in the Pittsburgh region continue to light up.  Despite exceeding both the national and benchmark averages, there is good news. The percent of current smokers has been declining and is down from 23.4% the previous year. Please click here to see how Pittsburgh compares with the benchmark regions.
