Bankruptcy Filings & Housing Appreciation Improving

Dear Friend,

The Pittsburgh region saw dramatically fewer bankruptcy filings than its benchmark peers in the first quarter of 2014. Bankruptcy filings in Pittsburgh were the second lowest of all benchmark regions, a total of only 1,931 bankruptcies, and less than the benchmark average of 3,753 bankruptcies. The region's housing market is also steadily improving. From the first quarter of 2009 through the first quarter of 2014, home prices appreciated 5.5 percent, ranking Pittsburgh the second highest of all benchmark regions; all other regions except Denver saw housing prices fall in that five-year period.
