Pittsburgh bankruptcies far below other cities
Dear Friend,

The Pittsburgh region continues to experience dramatically fewer bankruptcies than its benchmark peers. With just 2,099 bankruptcies in the first quarter of 2013, Pittsburgh is lower than all benchmark regions except Charlotte, which has 1,483 filings in the same period, and less than half the benchmark average of 4,308.

Bankruptcy filings nationwide declined by almost 16 percent in the first quarter of 2013 over the same period last year;  Pittsburgh's 17.9 percent bankruptcy decline matches the benchmark average.

In addition, data for 2012 show a slight decrease in exports from the Pittsburgh region compared to total exports from the region in 2011. Coal, steel and chemicals are the Pittsburgh region's three principal export products.
