Five-year job growth rate 1.4 percent

The total nonfarm job figure for May 2013 in the Pittsburgh region was 1,1708,700, and the year-over-year job growth rate was 0.9 percent, which was below the benchmark average of 1.5 percent. Indianapolis had the highest year-over-year job growth rate at 2.9 percent.

 

 

 

 

Sectors that are doing well include financial activities (up 3.5 percent), professional and business services (up 4.4 percent), and transportation and utilities (up 2.5 percent). Information jobs in the region declined 2.7 percent year-over-year, and wholesale trade declined by 2.1 percent.  

 

Over the five-year period from May 2008 to May 2013, the Pittsburgh region gained 16,800 nonfarm jobs. Pittsburgh's job growth rate over the past five years was 1.4 percent.
