The STEM Gap and April Unemployment figures
Dear Friend,

PittsburghTODAY has just released an article, the first of a three-part series written by Evan Pattak, that examines the STEM GAP and its impact, now and long term, on the region. The STEM Gap: Finding Workers to Fuel the Future, looks at what local companies are doing to 'stem the tide' of the STEM crisis which has America's business and education sectors scrambling to find ways to make technical careers more palatable to students and young job seekers.

In addition, new unemployment data released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics today show that the Pittsburgh region's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in April was 7.1 percent, which was slightly lower than the rate in March 2013 (7.2 percent, which was revised downward). The rate was unchanged from the same month last year. Pittsburgh's rate in April was just below the benchmark average.
