Job growth rate improves
Dear Friend,

The total nonfarm job figure for April 2013 in the Pittsburgh region was 1,170,200, and the year-over-year job growth rate was 0.9 percent, which was higher than last month's rate of 0.2 percent but still below the benchmark average of 1.3 percent. Denver had the highest year-over-year job growth rate at 2.7 percent.

Sectors that are doing well include financial activities (up 3.4 percent), professional and business services (up 4.0 percent), and education and health services (up 1.9 percent). Government jobs in the region declined 1.9 percent year-over-year, and wholesale trade declined by 1.7 percent.
