Building permits increased in 2012

Dear Friend,

The number of new, private residential building permits issued in the Pittsburgh region last year totaled 3,717, an increase of more than 800 permits over the previous year, according to preliminary data from the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey. Most of our comparison regions also saw increases year-over-year. Only four regions - Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, and Indianapolis - experienced declines year-over-year.

County-level data reveals that most of the new construction in the region is taking place in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Indiana, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Thanks for your interest,
