Locally, Greene County had the highest average weekly wages in the second quarter of 2012, followed closely by Allegheny County. Washington County ranked fourth in the region and made the top 10 list of large counties nationwide in terms of absolute increase in average weekly wages and percentage increase in average weekly wages. Read the press release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for more information.

In addition, the Pittsburgh region's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in November was 7.2 percent, 0.1 percentage points lower than the rate in October 2012 but 0.1 percentage points higher than the rate in November 2011. The unemployment rate in every region except Philadelphia declined or remained unchanged year-over-year.

The number of unemployed in the Pittsburgh MSA increased by 3.6 percent in November 2012 compared to November 2011, and the number of employed - as well as the total labor force - continued to grow. In fact, the total labor force figure of 1,265,110 is the highest labor force figure for the region ever.
