Region's crime rate low and hotel occupancy high

Dear Friend,

In public safety indicators, Pittsburgh continues to be among the safest of the benchmark regions.  Please click on the links to see rates for burglary, murder, robbery, and a variety of other crimes.  In 2011, the Pittsburgh region had the lowest motor vehicle theft rate compared to its benchmark regions.

Pittsburgh held the highest hotel occupancy rate year-to-date through September 2012 with a rate of 69.4 percent, outpacing destinations such as Philadelphia with 67.6 percent, Baltimore with 66.8 percent, and Charlotte, where the 2012 Democratic National Convention was held, with 65.1 percent.  With 24,115 rooms, Pittsburgh did however trail a majority of its benchmark regions in September for the number of hotel rooms, regions which include Philadelphia (44,213 rooms), Baltimore (33,026 rooms), and Charlotte (32,593 rooms).
