African Americans in Pittsburgh and growth in labor force

Dear Friend,

PittsburghTODAY has just released two articles written by journalists Jeffery Fraser and Ben Schmitt that examine the quality of life for African Americans in Pittsburgh. Based on data from the Regional Quality of Life Survey, conducted in partnership with our colleagues at the University Center for Social and Urban Research, The Data in Black and White and The Newcomer Experience, delve into racial disparities in Pittsburgh and examine how livable Pittsburgh is for African Americans.

In addition, new employment data released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics today show that the Pittsburgh region has hit a record labor force figure for the sixth straight month. The total labor force in October was 1,264,640, which topped September's figure of 1,259,887. Both the number of employed and the number of unemployed continued to grow. The unemployment rate for region was 7.3 percent, down slightly from 7.4 percent in September.
