Strengthening Families ...
A positive approach to preventing child abuse

Strong families are happier, healthier, more productive and more likely to survive challenges. Strong families are better prepared to nurture and support their children. Children from strong families are more likely to create strong families of their own.

That's why we strengthen families.

Parents' Summit

In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention month in April, we are offering an innovative FREE Parents' Summit at The Neighborhood Place on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We invite parents to join us for a full slate of activities that will offer helpful guidance, connect them to resources and to their neighbors, and introduce them to the myriad of services they'll find year 'round at The Neighborhood Place.

A Holistic Approach

The Parents' Summit will look at complex and multiple issues facing families. We view these issues through a holistic lens, sharing best practices in skillful parenting. Parenting can be joyful and rewarding when we have the knowledge, support and resources we need. At The Parents' Summit, participants will realize they don't have to tackle the challenges alone. We are here to guide them. Among the activities parents may engage in with our team of facilitators ...

  • Financial empowerment - discover the tools for reducing debt, budgeting, raising credit scores and saving money.
  • Parenting challenges - challenging behaviors from children of any age can be handled with love, patience and discipline. Our staff will share techniques for achieving your goals and reducing frustration.
  • Parenting teens - our Youth Services staff will talk to parents about issues that today's teens face and help parents equip their teens to take a positive path in school and life.
  • Family issues - facilitators will offer advice and hope for parents dealing with a host of topics concerning families today, including healthy communication, child care, involvement in schools and more.
  • Grandparents as parents - today, many grandparents are raising their grandchildren; here, we offer resources and guidance to help ease their burdens and develop a support system to aid in their success.
Join Us at the Summit!

Breakfast and lunch will be served, and sessions will be offered in English and Spanish. Space is limited. There is no cost to participants. If you'd like to participate, please call (210) 299-2496 for information.

April: Child Abuse

Prevention Month

Our collaborative approach to strengthening families involves a continuum of services to ensure continuity and ease of access for families enduring the stresses of poverty, anxiety, instability and despair. We make meaningful connections with children and families to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect. We connect families to their neighborhoods, schools and resources to give them strength in community. We provide an array of services that protect children, guide parents, ensure quality early education, and keep families healthy and intact. Our mission: "Empowering individuals and families to transform their lives and strengthen their community" prevents child abuse and neglect. Countless children are saved; these are the stories you do not see on the front page and we are proud of that achievement.
