Summer Youth
Internship Program

Photo: Many of our youth who participate in our other programs also participate in our summer internship program.
This program allows 300 youth between the ages of 14-17 to intern at a variety of community businesses and organizations this summer. Youth will work 120 hours over a six-week period for minimum wage (to be paid by Family Service) to introduce them to workforce opportunities, enhance their own financial literacy through earnings and savings, and encourage their participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) related professions. Currently we are looking for internship sites for youth in the higher educational field as well as in STEAM related professions to promote career readiness and access to continued opportunities. If you know of a business that would like an opportunity to mentor a youth give us a call at 210-299-2400.
Early Head Start
Child Care Partnership

We are excited to announce the start of the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership which will allow us to provide quality child care for children ages 0-3. Three sites will provide a stimulating learning environment while helping each child develop essential motor skills and thought processes.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Neighborhood Place, El Hogar de los Vecinos, is an official VITA site. Stop by our west side gem at 3014 Rivas Street to have your tax forms prepared and filed at no cost to you by a trained volunteer. If you like to do your own taxes but have trouble accessing the internet, we can help with that too! Come with your questions and leave with answers!

Partner Spotlight:
The Green and Healthy
Home Initiative

Does your home have chipped or cracked paint? If that paint contains lead your family could be in danger! San Antonio's Green and Healthy Home Initiative is a program to help families in need make sure their home is safe. If you live in a house built in the 70's, the paint may contain lead. Their staff will come and do a free test of your paint as well as check for other safety concerns like smoke detector efficiency and quality. If there are safety concerns the staff will help repair your home at no cost to you.To learn more and to see how you can qualify click here
Birdies for Charity

Family Service Association is again participating in Birdies For CharityŽ. This donation drive is an integral part of the Valero Texas Open golf tournament that gives back to organizations working to empower San Antonio. There are two ways to donate. You can make a donation based on number of birdies in the tournament. The 2014 Valero Texas Open had 1,784 birdies made, so a pledge of $0.01 yielded a donation of $17.84. You can also make a flat donation to an organization of your choice. As the oldest agency in San Antonio we are so thankful to Valero and other sponsors for their continued support of our city. To help give back visit HERE (don't forget to select Family Service!)
