Greetings!

As many of you know, I have had a very amazing spring, two life changing events and a transformative retreat.

First, my husband and love of my life was admitted into the hospital in March with a lift threatening experience.
He is now recovered after surgery that took out his gall bladder.  It was a harrowing experience for both of us.  We were taught how to cherish life and each other, and to move in and up out of an abyss of terror and emotion, in mind, body and soul.

Everything I have experienced in my life has prepared me for moments such as this, my journey into my soul, my hardships, joys, teaching, art, yoga, parenting, marriage, everything has informed my path.  I AM GRATEFUL!

The second life changing event came as I witnessed and helped a new life enter this world.  I became the Doula to a dear young woman and her husband who asked me to be by their side as she gave birth to their first baby.  It was remarkable to witness her courage, strength, and devotion to this little being unfold.   Welcome to the world little Rilke!  IT WAS AMAZING!!!

Third, I joined a group of 30 as we ventured into the depth of our souls on a Silence Vision Que sedona rock water st. We were one with Nature, which is as it needs to be, and one in soul with the World.  I am journeying to retain the transformation I experienced, and to walk with peaceful steps through my life.

I have been gifted with life, I have been gifted with death, I have been gifted with life and death again and again.  It is a never ending cycle, each IN breath life, each OUT breath death...

Let's begin with a quote from Rumi

"Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings."

I wish you joy and meaning for your journey into Yoga and into your life.  Namaste,   DL

WORKING WITH THE HANDS AND FEET...

goddess pose
Goddess pose is wonderful for waking up the hands and feet and also the entire body!
The feet and hands are neglected parts of the body.  The hands are perpetually in a grip while holding, curling, grabbing with technology usage and stress. Most of us bind our feet in too small of shoes and tight socks. See what I mean?
There are 27 bones in each of our hands (see this link for more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand) and the feet have 26 bones and 33 joints (see this link for more:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot)!! There are more bones in those spots than anywhere else in the body!  That should say something to you, maybe give these very active appendages more time and attention!

Lets move through a lovely sequence to do just that, more time and attention to the hands and feet.  Here we go!

   a.
b.
c.d.
Foot work (press hands on blocks to modify and take weight off feet):  a.Toes bent under heels close, b. top of feet flat heels close, c. big toes touch, d. cross feet and massage.

Free toe spreaders, your fingers!

Hand work:

There is so much more in yoga to energize the hands and feet.  Every pose involves the entire body, so join a class today and get into your body!

Have a HOOT!

Love and Hugs, DL
