The "Dream Team" from the United States, consisting of Tim McQuay, Tom McCutcheon, Shawn Flarida, and Craig Schmersal, took the gold medal at the FEI World Reining Championship presented by John Deere, on Sunday.
It was the third consecutive WEG gold for the United States, which captured the top spot this year with a score of 674.5 points.
In order of their runs, Tim and Hollywoodstinseltown scored a 220.5; Craig Schmersal and Mister Montana Nic marked a 223.5; Tom McCutcheon and Gunners Special Nite scored a 224; and Shawn Flarida and RC Fancy Step marked a team-competition high score of 227.
Though the traffic and crowds were challenging, we had a great time! Joined by Claude and Becky Lindsey, Lyle Lovett and April Kimble, Steve Harris, Bob Racich, Sally Broten, Jerry Kimmel and of course Dave and Bonnie Silva, our suite was rocking during the competition! Also Colleen's dad, Norm Van Sloun, sister Terri Van Sloun and nephew Nathan Bouley, joined the team of supporters along with Liz Strader and Tom's mother, Jan McCutcheon. Add Cade and Carlee McCutcheon to the pack and their was rarely a dull moment!
We were very fortunate to be able to camp at our friend's farm, where we could cook out as well as spend some time with old friends and meet new ones. We maybe even convinced some jumper riders to add reiners to their list! A special thanks to Billy Steffee and Dave and Laura Steffee for all their hospitality and support!
The U.S. reining team - Tim McQuay, left, Craig Schmersal, Tom McCutcheon and Shawn Flarida - celebrated their gold medal at the awards ceremony for the reining competition. The U.S. team chef d' equipe Jeff Petska cradled the trophy in his arm.
