 Downtown Sebring Expands Banner Program

Since December 2013, the Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has been expanding its banner program, which is part of the agency's Marketing Plan.  Banners add interest to the streetscape, as well as help to promote the area and its unique character.

The first new set of banners were installed in December for the Heartland Holiday Festival.  The banners were red, white and green with various holiday messaging.   The second set of new banners will be installed in mid-February.  These brightly-colored banners will feature the words Dine, Shop & Explore on each one with a corresponding graphic and the Downtown Sebring website listed on the left side.

"Our goal, per the Marketing Plan, is to have a several sets of rotating banners to feature throughout the year to add color and vibrancy to the Downtown Sebring area," said Robin Hinote, CRA Executive Director.  "The response we have received has been very positive."

Other sets of banners to be used in the year-round rotation include one design for the Roaring 20s Festival and one set for Fourth of July/Independence Day.  The Holiday and General sets of banners were designed by local artist Kristy Harris.

Citrus Label Art Scheduled to Exhibit at Highlands MoTA

To celebrate Florida's rich citrus heritage, the Highlands Museum of the Arts (MoTA) will be hosting two citrus exhibits from March 6 - May 31 with the Opening Reception on Thursday, March 6 from 5-7 PM (free admission during the reception).

The two exhibits from the Museum of Florida History include:

  1. Florida Citrus Labels - A collection of 24 citrus labels that represent the thousands used in Florida between the late 1800s and the 1960s.
  2. Crate Expectations: An Exhibit of Florida Citrus Crate Labels  - Between the late 1800s and the 1960s, colorful labels decorated the ends of wooden crates that transported Florida citrus produce to northern markets.

In addition to the citrus art housed inside MoTA, Miami-based artist Hector Neiblas will refurbish and paint farm equipment and machinery, which will be displayed as outdoor art around the Museum for visitors to view.  While the citrus exhibit is on display, HAL will be offering various art classes with citrus and citrus-related topics and themes, including its popular Art Uncorked classes.

MoTA is located at 351 W. Center Avenue in Downtown Sebring's Allen Altvater Cultural Center on the shores of Lake Jackson.  It is part of the four-building Highlands Art League (HAL), which also offers art classes, workshops and programs for children and adults, as well as a gallery and gift shop.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the exhibit, volunteering at MoTA or for general information, please visit www.HighlandsArtLeague.org or call (863) 385-5312.
