What to Know When Shooting Video of Your Practice

You may find yourself at one time or another thinking you want to shoot a video for your practice. Often the conversation starts with, "We need to make a video."  And from there people start looking for a video company or videographer to hire to shoot and produce their idea. THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE TO START!

I started in the video production business in 1978. About 3 years before that (1975) the first video cassette recorders were available to consumers for their homes. Not long after that businesses started producing and distributing promotional, marketing and training videos because the players were readily available. I've been in commercial video from the beginning.  In all that time and all the companies I've worked with most start out to make a video because they see others (their competitors) using video successfully, but again, it's the wrong place to start from.

The right place to start is asking:

  • What do you want the video to accomplish for you?
  • Who's going to see the video (target audience)?
  • After your audience has seen the video, what do you want them to know and/or do (what action must they take)?

Understanding and defining the outcome helps in the design of your video, keeping us focused on the outcome, the results.  It also helps measure the tools' level of success.

What to look for when searching for the right video company or videographer to produce your video.  Pay attention to the questions they ask you.  Are they focused on your objectives and expected results?  And if you're not clear about your objectives do they help you identify them?

I have been producing videos for my private dental clients to use in their marketing.  I have interviews hundreds of patients for them, but before we ever started the project we sat and identified the docs objective.  Video is a great way to introduce you and your practice, it gives the viewer a chance to meet you and feel comfortable with you before they ever arrive at the practice.

Why the Web? Reason #226
The Cloud is a Proven Platform

Curve Dental is a definitely a leader when it comes to the cloud. So we do get our share of darts and arrows from mean people who don't want to see us succeed. In response, I'm presenting the top ten silly things mean people say about the cloud.

Curve Dental is a definitely a leader when it comes to the cloud. So we do get our share of darts and arrows from mean people who don't want to see us succeed. In response, I'm presenting the top ten silly things mean people say about the cloud.

The ninth one: Nobody Uses the Cloud

When I first heard this I wasn't sure what was meant.

Did they mean nobody uses the cloud, as in nobody? Or, did they mean nobody uses the cloud, as in doctors don't use the cloud?

If it's the first, that nobody uses the cloud, well, that's ridiculous. Isn't it? Any time you swipe open a tablet you're cloud computing. If you're on Facebook, or shopping, or reading the news, or balancing your checkbook, you're cloud computing. So, almost everyone uses the cloud.

If it's the latter, that doctors don't use the cloud, well that's not true either. More than 3,000 dental professionals use Curve Dental every day to manage the oral health of more than 3,000,000 patients. Just because one person is stuck in the 90's doesn't mean we're all stuck in the 90's. It's a new century: How can we possible be dissing the cloud?
