Dawn at the Pro Am Regatta in Nantucket Last Summer

Dawn Tells All: 2014 ProAm Regatta
On the same day that the streets flooded in Huntington, the Farr 47 left Nantucket for Newport in 40 knots of wind, and I flew into Nantucket to race in the Celebrity Invitational. The rain left, but the wind stayed and made us work for our dinner. We raced aboard IODs for a total of 32 miles over 2 days and then networked at night. It was exhausting, but it was all for a good cause, raising funds for Community Sailing of Nantucket.
Funny story of the week was when my skipper, Tom Darling, took Martha Parker of Team One Newport and I to a legendary place called the Wharf Rat Club. We were admiring the framed flags documenting various expeditions where their burgee was carried. Martha was reading a note describing how this particular flag had traveled around the world in the 1973 Whitbread with an all female crew. I said - that is IMPOSSIBLE at which point I put on my glasses and we used the flashlight on an iPhone to read that it was the 93 Whitbread. That was ME. I had forgotten that Sandra Welsh and Leah Newbold had hidden the flag onboard for the whole race!
