Match Racing Sails Offshore

August 4, 2014
Greetings!

Match Racing remained a theme this past weekend as both our Farr 40s dueled in the Around Long Island Race while Sapling Charlie Lalumiere impressed at the Summer Invitational.

The Farr 40s pulled in 1st in class, 3rd overall, and won the Youth division. Lalumiere dominated Sunday racing winning the regatta and a berth in the Oakcliff International.

Sail the Sound for Deafness This Week

Thursday, Oakcliff will be co-hosting the Sail the Sound for Deafness Regatta with the Mill Neck Family of Organizations.

The regatta will take place during the normal Thursday evening race followed by a party at Mill Neck Manor at 8pm.

The bad new is that spectator and classic sailor tickets are sold out. However, tickets are still available for the dinner party, and you can still enter your own classic. If you would like to purchase a ticket or enter your own classic, please click the links.

Lalumiere's Oakcliff Team After Winning The Summer Invitational
Lalumiere Earns Invitation to Oakcliff International

Charlie Lalumiere and his team defeated world class competition this past weekend to win the Grade 3 Summer Invitational.

Lalumiere's team was in fourth place after the round robin on Saturday. After winning the quarter finals, Charlie and his team advanced to the semi-finals racing Maxi Soh, who won the round robin the day before. After beating Soh in the semifinals they advanced to sail Peter Holz in the finals where they went undefeated.

Lalumiere's crew was a fully Oakcliff team including Sapling Colin Kennedy, Acorns Austin Colpaert and Kilian Duclay, and Oakcliff Supporter Christopher Poole.

Winning this event means Charlie earns the last invitation for the Oakcliff International, a Grade 2 taking place in September.

Congratulations team!

Farr 40s Take Match Racing Offshore

During the Around Long Island Race, our Farr 40s took their match racing skills to the offshore course. A little friendly competition between crews proved to make for an exhausting race.

One Farr 40 (wheel boat) finished 1st in class and 3rd overall, and the other Farr 40 (tiller boat) finished close behind earning 6th overall. Acorns learned a lot during their first trip offshore with our experienced crews.

Sapgrad Elizabeth Shaw said, "Our advantage really came once the sun set. While others appeared to struggle with night time sailing and exhaustion both boats were able to use the dark to make up miles."

Offshore Acorns will now prepare for the Ida Lewis Distance Race on the Farr 47 that starts next week in Narragansett Bay.

Crews listed below:

Tiller                                  Wheel
Elizabeth Shaw                    Hobie Ponting
Chris Kennedy                     Vlad Shablinsky
James Hough                      Jacob Henley
Parker Lyman                      Joseph Bello
Brandon Yuen                     Sophia Schultz
Sean Duclay                       Joseph Plisic
Anthony Velez                     Sue DiSanti
Josh Prisamt                       Mark DiSanti
Avi Lessman                       Doug Reynolds

Congrats to both teams!

Sincerely,
