Greetings!
Oakcliff is fielding 2 Farr 40s full of Acorns and Saplings in the Around Long Island Race in Thursday. This 190mile match race in the middle of a regatta is going to provide an intense learning experience and be a fight for internal bragging rights.
When they get home, we have our fingers crossed that the Bunkhouse will be ready. We are still fundraising to pay off the construction expenses, but read below for some cool updates and photos.

Bunkhouse Prepares for Final Checks
The Bunkhouse is almost done, but we still need donations
and the certificate of occupancy before the move in process begins!
The bunkhouse is looking awesome. We have made every effort to be innovative and keep everything inexpensive yet durable as possible.
For the kitchen and bathrooms, Green Demolitions was an amazing find. The fixtures are used-luxury coming in lower priced than builders grade products.
Additionally, Anne Corvi and Mark DiSanti sourced donations for most of the toilets and stalls and offered valuable advice.
The flooring is a combination of Firma Luxury Tile which looks like wood but is PVC over cement board to be as moisture resistant as possible. This theme goes into the bedrooms where the carpet is actually indoor outdoor carpet. The solid wood fire doors are all coated in Awl Grip's new All Wood product which we discovered when they were here training our Acorns. The painting was done by staff and volunteers after hours and on weekends, including 4th of July.

Now it is your turn to contribute. Please consider leaving a legacy by putting your name on a room, shower stall, or bunk. This is an opportunity for your name to influence generations of sailors to come.

Dave Perry with Inshore Acorns and Sapling at a previous Grade 3

Dave Perry's Last Clinegatta of the Year
Thursday and Friday, Dave Perry will be coaching the Summer Invitational, his last Oakcliff clinegatta of the year.
Dave will focus on boat speed in the Match 40s especially accelerating quickly at the pre-start and shifting gears upwind and downwind. This is especially valuable with Oyster Bay's dynamic wind speed.
Saturday and Sunday will see aggressive racing in West Harbor. Winner of the event will qualify for the last spot for the Oakcliff International, a Grade 2 and final event of the Grand Slam Series.
As always, you can follow the action on Facebook, Twitter, and VHF Channel 69.

Teams Match Racing During the Grade 5
|
Acorn Sophia Puts Pressure on the Boys
Although this Acorn session is dedicated to offshore racing, our Acorns still get to match race. Our only female Offshore Acorn, Sophia Schultz, skippered her team to a 2nd place finish with a record of 5-1.
New to match racing and ultimate winner of the event, Derek Webster, had Sophia chasing at his heels. Her crew members included Acorns Kilian and Sean Duclay and Saplings Charlie Lalumiere and Jacob Henley.
Other Sapling and Acorn teams included Dave Hein's and Christain Langalis' teams placed 5th and 6th respectively. Their crew lists are below.
Team Hein Team Langalis
Dave Hein Christain Langalis
Doug Reynolds Colin Kennedy
Anthony Velez Josh Prisamt
Lillian Kennedy Mark Feck
Joe Bello Joe Plisic
Congrats to Derek Webster's winning team!

Besides the finishing of the bunkhouse, the Grade 3 Clinegatta, the Around Long Island Race we also are sending a team out onto the New York Yacht Club Cruise. We are stretched so thin that Dawn is being called in to sail with Oakcliff and Art Santry's team on Temptation. She will only be there this weekend and is looking forward to catching up with friends old and new. Track her down at the bar and ask about Oakcliff.
Sincerely,
Samantha Pilz

 Volunteers in the Spotlight
Oakcliff loves our volunteers, especially when it is a family affair, like the Kennedy's and Duclay's.
Larry Kennedy has been outstanding as a mark boat operator and photographer and even roped his family into helping paint the bunkhouse.
The Duclays (pictured above) are close on the Kennedys heels. They manned the top mark boat on Saturday's Grade 5 while acorns Sean and Kilian Duclay raced.Bright and early Sunday morning, they all showed up to clean up the overspray on the door frames upstairs that Ladi "may" have created. Ladi also coaches the Duclay kids in soccer prompting Jenny to comment - "Maybe Ladi should do burpees for the this."
