FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OAKCLIFF ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL SAILORS WITH JUNE INVITATIONAL
06.06.2014 - Oyster Bay, NY - Oakcliff Sailing attracted the attention of several international sailors and a coach with their Grade 3 June Invitational Clinegatta on Thursday and Friday.
Oakcliff is the only high-performance training center in the world that offers clinegattas, so they attract a lot of international attention. Clinegattas consist of two stages a clinic and regatta. The clinic stage started early each morning with a chalktalk and racing throughout the afternoon.
Scott Dickson, a New Zealand citizen and California resident, is coaching this clinic portion of the event this week. Dickson is excited to see Oakcliff "giving sailors the opportunity to participate in world class match racing and the number of youth match racers rising."
Oakcliff also has two international graduates sailing in the event. Elizabeth Shaw and Max St. Maurice both graduated from the Sapling program. Shaw is from Canada, and St. Maurice has citizenships within Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
In addition, one team was from Bermuda and two other teams were from Canada.
Oakcliff is excited to have international sailors be involved with their program, because the international sailors bring new challenges to the racecourse.
One of our current Saplings, Avi Lessman, enjoys being able to sail against the international sailors, because they "bring a new level of competition and allow him to expand his network connections."
Sailors will begin the regatta stage on Saturday morning where they will compete against each other in a Grade 3 Match Race.
Below is the list of sailors participating in the event:
- Elizabeth Shaw
- Colin Kennedy
- Doug Shannon
- Lance Fraser
- Jon Hammond
- Jason Hearst
- Chantal Hearst
