Latin Students Set Gold Medal Record
This was a banner year for Bishop Watterson's Latin students on the 2016 National Latin Exam. They won 33 gold medals, three more than the record set in 2011! There were also 26 silver medal winners, ten 3rd place certificate winners and three 4th place certificate winners. Of the 82 students who took the exam, 73 earned an award. Latin teacher Denise Davis-Henry is very proud of the students' outstanding, academic achievement!

At the Jubilee for Boys & Girls at the Vatican this weekend, Pope Francis told young people happiness cannot be bought ... or downloaded. According to engadget.com, "The Pope held up an iPhone to illustrate how a life without Jesus was like a smartphone with no bars. 'Always be sure to go where there is a network,' Pope Francis said, referring to a support network of 'family, parish, school,' rather than an actual network of cellular towers." Vaccine Requirement for Juniors
 A new state law requires that all students entering their senior year of high school for the 2016-17 school year must have received two doses of meningococcal vaccine. Please note: doses must be given 8 weeks apart. Proof of the MCV4 vaccine must be turned into the BWHS office by the first day of school which will be August 24, 2016. Vaccines can be administered by your pediatrician or your county health department. |

Summer Theatre Workshop
Sessions for grades 2-8 and 9-12 will be held August 8-13 in the Little Theatre!
Each participant will get an opportunity to experience what it takes to put on a staged production. From Auditions to Set Design, Rehearsals to Costume Selection, Choreography to Vocal Review - in one week, students will participate in a student-built show with confidence!

Athletic Notes
Sports Performance Camp - May 7
This camp is open to boys in grades 4-8 and will provide an opportunity to develop skills and enhance overall sports performance. We will focus on movement preparation (dynamic warm up), speed mechanics, agility training, sport specific training, resistance training, core strength development and energy system development (conditioning).

 As the Diocese of Columbus Office of Catholic Schools sets the framework for school calendars each year. We wanted to let you know about key dates and a significant change for the 2016-17 school year.

Memorial Day/No School: May 29, 2017 Last Day: Thursday, June 1, 2017 For the 2016-2017 school year, the customary week off during the spring will NOT coincide with the week following Easter. Instead of having an Easter break, we will now have the following days off:
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday (April 13-17, 2017)
Spring Break during the week of March 27-31, 2017
By providing this information now, we hope to assist parents to plan vacations accordingly with these dates in mind. Keep in mind that it is more difficult for your children and our staff if you stretch your breaks by taking your children out of school before the break actually begins.

 Re-enrollment for the Kroger Community Rewards program is currently open. As a reminder, Kroger donates money to Bishop Watterson quarterly based on the amount that BWHS-registered users earn in comparison to other participating groups in the community.
