Bishop Watterson Wednesday News

April 13, 2016
Dear Parents, American born author, Henry James wrote: "Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind." This quote is simple to remember and even easier to do. Throughout our lives let us make these three things important in all our thoughts, words and actions. Have a great week.
Sincerely, Marian Hutson Principal

Vaccine Requirement for Juniors
A new state law requires that all students entering their senior year of high school for the 2016-17 school year must have received two doses of meningococcal vaccine. Please note: doses must be given 8 weeks apart. Proof of the MCV4 vaccine must be turned into the BWHS office by the first day of school which will be August 24, 2016. Vaccines can be administered by your pediatrician or your county health department.

State Mandated Testing
As you know, the Ohio Graduation Test has been replaced by state developed "end of the year" exams. Students must take tests in algebra, geometry, English language arts, American history, American government, and biology over a four year period and accumulate 18 points in order to graduate. The waiver private schools received last year was only for the 2014-2015 school year; we are required to administer the exams this year.
Students will be tested in five curriculum areas depending on their grade level. Freshmen will be tested in Algebra I or geometry, and English language arts. Sophomores will be tested in geometry, English language arts, American history and biology. Each test consists of two 90 minute sections. All tests must be completed in a ten day consecutive block.
We will begin testing on April 19 and finish on April 29. Please try to make sure your child is not absent on those days.
In order to provide a quiet and conducive testing environment, classes will end at 1:35 pm and testing will begin at 1:50 pm on four of the designated testing days with the other four having regular dismissal.
April 19 and April 20 - English Language Arts for freshmen and sophomores - 1:35 pm dismissal April 21 and April 22 - Algebra and Geometry for freshmen and sophomores - 1:35 pm dismissal April 26 and April 27 - Biology - sophomores - regular dismissal April 28 and April 29 - American History - sophomores - regular dismissal
