Bishop Watterson's curriculum encompasses both depth and breadth to enable our students to discover the strengths and talents God gave them. Over the next few weeks we will share information about the variety of our electives.
This Week: Business Electives
Our business department offers 10 courses, from Accounting to Innovation and Entrepreneurship with AP courses offered in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. In addition, the Advanced Marketing and Innovation and Entrepreneurship class curriculums include practical experience running the Eagle Store.  In our newest business class, Real Estate and Finance, students conduct an analysis of current needs within the marketplace and explore financial considerations as well as plan and design an actual real estate project!

H20 Challenge

This year's H2O challenge ends on Ash Wednesday, February 10. The purpose of the drive is to commit to drinking nothing but water during the 14-day period. Instead of buying coffee, for example, drink water and set aside the money you would have spent on the coffee. At the end of the challenge, you should have a decent amount of money to donate to our selected charity.

Once again, the collected money will be sent to the Passion Center for Children in Malawi, Africa. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. David Klemm, Theology teacher and Human Rights Club moderator, at: [email protected] and thank you for your support!

2017 Trip to Cuba
Informational Meeting: TOMORROW! Thursday, February 4, 6:00 pm, Room 204

RSVP to attend: Sra. Geers, [email protected]

Just 90 miles separate Cuba from the United States, and yet this island nation has been a world away for more than 50 years. As the doors slide open to U.S. travel and business again, Cuba is sure to reinvent itself. Its rich legacies of fine arts, music, and dance and its current political and economic realities make it a hotspot once again.

Sra. Geers is planning a trip, tentatively scheduled for June 12-20, 2017.

Hola
Cuba! Hola Havana! With a local guide, discover Ernest Hemingway's home and the Che Guevara mausoleum. Visit a sugar plantation, then tour Trinidad, a Spanish living museum. Visit with local high school students, then tour Old Havana. Later, a discussion on Cuban history and US & Cuban relations.

Please join trip coordinator Sra. Teresa Geers for an informational meeting on Thursday, February 4, at 6:00 pm in room 204.
2017 Trip to Italy and Spain

RSVP to attend: Signora Lombardo, [email protected]

Bishop Watterson HS is making a pilgrimage in June 2017! BWHS students and parents are welcome to travel with the group.

During our pilgrimage we will examine the intertwined histories and enduring cultures of Italy and Spain, Mediterranean nations that share an affinity for art, architecture and religion (not to mention mouth-watering cuisine). We will visit sites along the Way of St. James and the Way of St. Francis, which are ancient pilgrimage routes in Spain and Italy. Pending confirmation of the Papal schedule, we will also attend a Papal Audience in Rome, along with sites from Park Gell to the Colosseum and Sistine Chapel, gaining new perspectives on these pillars of Europe and the importance of mindful and prayerful travel.

Please plan to attend the February 11 informational meeting and RSVP to Signora Lombardo by February 8. [email protected].

Technology & Social Media Corner

You may have heard the sad story of tween Nicole Lovell in Virginia.
We recommend checking your child's social media and technology use and talking to your children about social media. It is important for teens to know that the number of followers or friends is not important, that having a large number of followers does not equate to popularity. Do they know every single person they have allowed to follow them? Would they know each other if they crossed paths at the mall and be able to have a conversation?
We like this quote from the NBC story: "One of the best things a parent can do to be protective is take themselves to school to learn that technology."

As the Diocese of Columbus Office of Catholic Schools sets the framework for school calendars each year. We wanted to let you know about key dates and a significant change for the 2016-17 school year.

Key Dates
First Day: Wednesday, August 24, 2016
Labor Day/No School: September 5, 2016
MLK Day/No School: January 16, 2017
Presidents' Day/No School: February 20, 2017
Memorial Day/No School: May 29, 2017
Last Day: Thursday, June 1, 2017

For the 2016-2017 school year, the customary week off during the spring will NOT coincide with the week following Easter. Instead of having an Easter break, we will now have the following days off:

Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday (April 13-17, 2017)

Spring Break during the week of March 27-31, 2017

By providing this information now, we hope to assist parents to plan vacations accordingly with these dates in mind. Keep in mind that it is more difficult for your children and our staff if you stretch your breaks by taking your children out of school before the break actually begins.
