Alumni prepare meals at St. Lawrence Haven
|
January Volunteers: Nancy Ryser, Patty Wilson, Colleen Hull, Mike Rea '62, and Ann McEwan '76 Moses.
The Alumni Department provides service at St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month. We prepare and package meals for the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. Lawrence Haven is the St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program. The Haven sits behind Holy Family Church at the corner of Rich and Main streets downtown. Approximately 300-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are very thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor.
If you are interested in helping on February 10, or at a future time, please email Terri Kernan at tkernan@cdeducation.org. We would love to have you join us!

"To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
At the end of our third month in our Annual Eagle Fund drive for 2015-16, our current total is $189,781.05. Our goal for this year is $300,000.
We would love 100% participation by everyone in the BWHS community, regardless of the amount.
The Annual Eagle Fund is the school's largest and most important annual fundraising campaign because it provides unrestricted funding that will be used for this school year's operating costs such as:
-Bridging the gap between the tuition charged and the actual cost of a Bishop Watterson education
-Providing tuition assistance for students in need
-Keeping pace with technology
-Financing ongoing facility enhancements and upgrades
-Maintaining the best learning environment possible
We are asking that all Bishop Watterson families, alumni and friends prayerfully consider a gift to the Annual Eagle Fund this year so that we can "Soar to New Heights!" You can give by mailing a check and designating Annual Fund or by clicking here .

Mrs. J-C Honored
A new scholarship was named after retired theology teacher and student mentor Jane Jacquemin-Clarke and announced at a recent Mass. Our average class size is 22. Class sizes for the fall 2015 semester ranged from one student in an independent study course to 58 students in band and 43 in the concert choir class.
___________________________Student-teacher ratio is a statistic that has been getting attention for many years. The assumption around this ratio: the smaller the ratio, the better the school. When we determine our ratio, we include every staff member who teaches classes or works directly with students to help them achieve their academic goals, such as guidance or intervention staff. Using this criteria, Bishop Watterson's student-teacher ratio is 12:1. ___________________________The average number of years of experience of our 87-member teaching staff is 20. ___________________________
ACT Research has shown that it is the rigor of coursework - rather than simply the number of core courses - that has the greatest impact on ACT performance and college readiness. A look at ACT scores shows that Bishop Watterson students are well prepared for college-level work. A five-year summary shows that BWHS student ACT scores in each of the four categories (English, Mathematics, Reading, Science) are above the ACT college readiness benchmark scores. In addition, our school's composite average over the past five years is well above the average for the State of Ohio.
