It's the gift-giving time of year and Bishop Watterson High School is reflecting with gratitude on a tremendous gift received during this past summer. While the students were on summer break and the 61-year-old building sat empty, six classrooms in junior hall were renovated, a gift to BWHS from several dedicated alumni, current parents and even folks new to the BWHS community ... click here to read the full story.

Alumni prepare meals at St. Lawrence Haven
|
The Alumni Department provides service at St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month. We prepare and package meals for the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. St. Lawrence Haven is the St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program. The Haven sits behind Holy Family Church at the corner of Rich and Main streets downtown. Approximately 300-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are very thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor.
If you are interested in helping on January 13, or at a future time, please email Terri Kernan at tkernan@cdeducation.org. We would love to have you join us! | December volunteers, left to right, front--Joe Hill '63; Back--Jill Olding, Mike Rea '62, Marri McGouldrick '82 Petrucci, Eleanor Walker, Bridget O'Neil,Theresa McEwan '79 Robenalt, and Patty Wilson |

It's That Giving Time of Year ... Consider the Annual Eagle Fund!
|
"It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving."
-- Blessed Mother Teresa
The second mailing for The Annual Eagle Fund will be arriving in mailboxes this week! Our goal this year is $300,000 and we are currently at 41% of goal with donations totaling $122,148.30.
The Annual Eagle Fund is the school's largest and most important annual fundraising campaign because it provides unrestricted funding that will be used for this school year's operating costs such as:
-Bridging the gap between the tuition charged and the actual cost of a Bishop Watterson education
-Providing tuition assistance for students in need
-Keeping pace with technology
-Financing ongoing facility enhancements and upgrades
-Maintaining the best learning environment possible
We are asking that all Bishop Watterson families, alumni and friends prayerfully consider a gift to the Annual Eagle Fund this year so that we can "Soar to New Heights!" You can give by mailing a check and designating Annual Fund or by clicking here .

Sacred Heart Enthronement |
Bishop Watterson will enthrone our school to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Mass on January 8th, 2016. In the enthronement ceremony, BWHS faculty, staff, students and parents will invite Jesus in and make a public declaration that He is the King of our school. Images of the Sacred Heart will be placed in all classrooms and other areas of the school to recognize Him and the place of honor He deserves. Please join us for this special event at 10:30 am in the new gym. Many blessings are sure to come to us following this momentous occasion! Pope Francis' Year of Mercy |
Pope Francis' Year of Mercy
As a community, Bishop Watterson will be focusing on the Jubilee Year of Mercy from December 8, 2015 through November 20, 2016, as declared by Pope Francis. We invite our families to join us in seeking to live out the Pope's call to become more merciful in our own lives and to bring God's mercy to others.
The Popes calls us to several specific actions, including: steeping ourselves in the Word of God, regularly participating in the Sacrament of Confession, and participating in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
Each month we will be focusing on a specific action of mercy and witnessing how we have encountered God's mercy in our lives. In December we are collecting food and toiletries for several organizations who help those in need. We invite participation in this project from every family. In addition, we seek to accept the Pope's call to help those in need when we encounter them. Sometimes we may want to turn away when we encounter someone in need, the Pope reminds us that in doing so, we are turning away from Christ himself. To be merciful means to stand with another in their need. Through our solidarity, we can become more humble and compassionate.
