BYOD Stickers
In keeping with our policy that student-owned devices must be properly registered with the BYOD program (parental approval also required), students are being issued BYOD stickers. These are clings that can be cleanly removed from the devices at the end of the school year. Stickers have been distributed to seniors and juniors, and sophomores and freshmen will be receiving theirs over the next week.

Parents in Partnership Meeting
Monday, October 19
Bishop Watterson will hold its first Parents in Partnership meeting on Monday, October 19 from 7:00-9:10 p.m. Freshman parents are required to attend Parents in Partnership on either October 19 or January 25, but we welcome and encourage all parents to attend these education sessions intended to help you navigate the teen years.
In recent years this meeting was known as Living Life Well the Watterson Way.
Parents choose two 55-minute sessions to attend from the list below.
I Need Your Help, But Please Don't Rescue Me! (Dominican Hall)
Laura Lewis, LPCC, Capital University
Adversity is a bit like exercise - we can't get fit if we sit around and do nothing but if we do too much we will break down and get hurt. Since adversity will strike your teen in high school (and likely already has in life), learn about the benefits of "working out struggles" and what parents can do to help teens bounce back from normal frustrations and setbacks.
Relationships and Dating
Pamela Heil, Youth Minister
Help your teen understand the qualities of healthy relationships, learn how to improve communication in relationships and how to make healthy choices with relationships.
Having Faith Conversations with Teens
Beth Simmonds, BWHS Theology Faculty
Learn the five thresholds of the faith journey and gain practical skill at engaging your teens and their friends in conversations which will invite them along the path of faith.
Parents, Peers and Pressures-Deciding Factors!
(Room 321 )
Dr. Rochelle Dunn, LPCC-S, Gahanna Schools
Adolescents want more fun, more independence, more time with friends, and more control over their daily lives. They do not want arguments with parents, conflicts with peers, social drama, loss of privileges, and adults telling them what to do. Join us as we discuss how relationships, social media, alcohol/drugs, friend drama, harassment, and other powerful influences affect teen's ability to be socially well and how you can support healthy decision-making.
Substance Use and Abuse -What Parents Need to Know
Steve Davis, LPCC, Enliven Counseling
Current adolescent substance use contributes to personal distress, poor school performance, short and long term health problems, relationship difficulties, and involvement in anti-social activities. Learn about trends in alcohol use/abuse, the warning signs, and what to do if you become concerned about your teen or his/her friends.

Ski Club Information
Ski Club will to Snow Trails in Mansfield, Ohio due to Mad River Mountain's unfortunate lodge fire in September. Many students at our Club Day meeting suggested that they would actually prefer to go to Snow Trails, which is comparable in distance and cost. Each student will be required to pay the bus fee in order to receive access to the online registration process. It is important that you pay your bus fee first, so that you can access the lower group rates on the Snow Trails website. The bus fee is a $120, non-refundable payment that covers the cost of all six evenings of Ski Club. The bus fee check should be written to Bishop Watterson and turned in to Mrs. Barrett who will then provide an access code to purchase a ski pass.
Price Increases: online prices increase after 10/15 and 11/15 2016 Dates: 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, and 2/10 Time: 3:30 - 9:30 (students must be on the bus by 8:30 to return to BWHS) Price: Bus - $120, remaining costs will vary based on type of ski package purchased
Please feel free to contact teacher/Ski Club advisor Corey Barrett (cbarrett@cdeducation.org, homeroom 319) with questions.

Guidance News
Naviance Family Connection
We are excited to introduce a new college and career tool called Naviance: Family Connection.
This customized online program allows students and parents to receive communications on upcoming events and deadlines. Seniors will manage their college applications, send transcripts and request teacher recommendations.
All students can create a course plan, research careers to create a list of potential careers and take assessments that provide insight into their personality.
Students can also create a resume, lists of possible colleges, research scholarships, and so much more.
Counselors will work with students to create their individual accounts.
Sophomore and Freshmen parents will receive the registration email THIS WEEK. Please create your account as soon as you receive the email.
Brainhoney
Please be sure that you are reviewing your child's academic status on BrainHoney regularly. Look closely at homework, quiz, test and other averages. Teachers use brainhoney as the main communication of your son's or daughter's progress in their class and may sometimes post comments meant for you to read. Your son/daughter knows how to access BrainHoney and is required to share his/her password with you so that you can also access this information. If after reviewing brianhoney, you have questions or concerns about a class, please contact the teacher directly.
Parents of Freshmen
Counselors met with all freshmen in small groups on either Monday, October 5th or Tuesday October 6th. In addition to helping students register with Naviance Family Connection, students will review website information for the October 14th ACT Aspire test.
ACT Aspire assesses a student's college and career readiness in the area of English, math, reading, science and writing. Freshmen parents will receive codes via email to register with Family Connection by the end of this week.
On Wednesday October 14th your student will be taking the ACT Aspire examination. This day is devoted to testing with students being dismissed around 1:30 p.m. If your student is approved for extended time testing on Bishop Watterson tests and quizzes, then he/she is approved for extended time on the ACT Aspire examination. Students testing with extended time will be dismissed around 3:13 p.m. There will not be cafeteria service on this day so it is requested that students pack a lunch. The National Honors Society will be selling pizza at $1.50 a slice as an alternative lunch option. Due to timing of the tests, if your student is approved for extended time we ask that he/she pack a lunch and bring it with them to the testing site because they will not have access to the cafeteria on this day.
Parents of Sophomores and Juniors
On Wednesday October 14th your student will be taking the PSAT-NMSQT. This day is devoted to testing with students being dismissed around 11:35 a.m. Those students approved by Collegeboard for 50% extended time (includes students testing with a reader) will be dismissed around 12:45 p.m., and those approved for testing with MP3 format are approved for 100% extended time will be dismissed around 1:40 p.m. Please note that students will not have access to the cafeteria on this day.
