Guidance News

Course Failure Policy and Summer School: The Bishop Watterson failure policy states that students in all grades must make up all failures in core courses during the summer. Refer to the Student Handbook for a list of required subjects by grade level. Students failing more than two core courses are subject to academic dismissal. Continue to monitor your son's or daughter's Brainhoney account and specifically look up the 4th quarter grade in each class. If there is a possibility that your son or daughter may not pass a class, please first refer to the summer school section of Bishop Watterson's website and then start your research of summer school course options.

Eligibility for Participation in Fall Activities: A student must achieve a minimum 1.0 GPA in a given quarter in order to participate in co-curricular activities. A student falling below the 1.0 GPA in a give quarter will be ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities during the following quarter. This means that any student who fails two or more subjects fourth quarter will not be able to participate in FALL athletic or co-curricular activities regardless of whether or not the student passes the course for the year.

AP Exam Test Takers: Your scores for this year's AP tests will be available in July, 2015. Using their collegeboard account, students can log on to apscore.org and use their AP ID number to check for the exact date in July that the scores will be available. Remember, Bishop Watterson does not send AP test scores to colleges. Seniors should have indicated which college the score(s) were to be sent when they filled out the pre-administration paperwork.

Seniors:

Sending Final Transcript:

In homeroom the first week of May, seniors filled out a form from the guidance office indicating the college they want their final transcript sent. In June, after grade cards go out, senior transcripts will be prepared and mailed out to the college they indicated on the form.

Sending Dual Enrollment Transcript:

After the dual enrollment course is complete and grades have been submitted in June to Ohio Dominican University, seniors need to contact ODU directly to have their ODU transcript sent to their college.

College Credit Plus:

The funding application for college credit plus is now available online at ohiohighered.org. It must be submitted to the Ohio Department of Education by June 15. Bishop Watterson's IRN is 052720 and Ohio Dominican University's IRN is 063677.

Seniors:

Scholarship Award Letters: As students receive scholarship award letters from colleges and universities to which they have applied, please have them give a copy to the counselor so they can be recognized for their accomplishments in the Graduation program.

Tablet Turn-In

As we wrap up the 2014-15 school year, one of our housekeeping items is tablet PC return for our juniors and seniors. While our seniors will, of course, be required to turn in their BWHS tablet PC starting on May 18, we are happy to offer a year-round option to our current juniors. This means that juniors now have the option to extend use of the school-owned computers through the summer vacation. Students will be required to use the same computer assigned for the 2014-15 school year and then during the 2015-16 school year. To participate in this program, please sign and return the form that will be coming home with your student.

Faculty Milestones

Five BWHS staff members were recognized for their years of service to the Diocese.  We especially appreciate their years of service to BWHS!

Left to right - Mike Fry, 30 years; Jane Jacquemin-Clark, 40 years; Bob Steinbauer, 40 years; Deacon Frank Iannarino, 40 years; Janet Anthony, 20 years.

In addition, Deacon Frank was honored with the Romana Hemmelgarn Award, given annually to a Catholic educator who best demonstrates care, concern, and dedication.

Congratulations!
