Dear Parents,
The devotion for the month of September is to Our Lady of Sorrows. We are reminded of Mary's suffering as she saw her Son crucified and tortured.
Virgin most sorrowful, pray for us.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Marian Hutson
Principal

Eagle Auction |
Save the Date!
We Are Watterson
Eagle Auction
October 12, 2013
We hope you have your calendars marked for October 12 for our 2013 Eagle Auction! This year's theme, "We Are Watterson", will start the year off with enthusiasm as we highlight all that Bishop Watterson offers and all of the amazing accomplishments and efforts of our children.
The Eagle Auction is our school's largest fundraiser and all of the money raised benefits our students. Last year's proceeds helped pay for the new boys' and girls' restrooms on the second floor of the school.
We hope you will join us for an evening of food, live entertainment, and both live and silent auction items, as you show your Watterson pride!
If you are interested in helping with this exciting event, we would love to hear from you! We are in need of auction items, as well as volunteers for the event. No item or gift card is too small because we often package smaller items together. If you own your own business, it's a great way to advertise to our entire Bishop Watterson community! For our new parents, it's a great way to meet other parents while also having fun!
Please e-mail Mary Beth DeSantis (mbdesantis@sbcglobal.net) or Jenny (Hungler) Woodford (jwoodfo@columbus.rr.com) if you are interested in helping with any aspect of the auction or if you have an item you would like to donate. We will also have sign-up sheets available at the evening parent meetings as well as the Mother's Club Fall Social. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Thank you for your continued commitment to Bishop Watterson and our students! We are looking forward to seeing you on October 12! |
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) |
Bishop Watterson High School's Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program is expanding for the 2013-14 school year to include students in all grades!
The pilot program during 2012-13 went very well and the technology team is excited for more students to get involved. Through the BYOD program, Bishop Watterson will allow use of personal computing devices such as laptops, tablets, e-readers, etc., on school network. Click here for more information and here for the program guidelines and sign up. |
Rules of the Road |

We had a visit from a Columbus police officer and as a result would like to remind all parents about a few things related to driving and parking:
- Do not park on the east side of Foster Street when waiting. The police will begin ticketing.
- The residents of the homes surrounding Bishop Watterson are our neighbors - all of our neighbors - and should be treated as such. It cannot always be easy living next to a high school so please be courteous and do not park in the neighboring driveways.
- The last bell of the day rings at 3:13. That means your student heads straight to his/her locker to pack up to go home. Please allow enough time for them to gather their books before arriving at school.
- Please remind your licensed children to drive though the neighborhoods with care. The speed limit on residential streets is 25 miles per hour and 20 in an active school zone.

She was awarded the 2013 Indiana Music Education Association Outstanding Collegiate Music Educator of the Year Award for her work with community and college choirs.

Italian Exchange Program - Host Families Needed |
As follow-up to the successful annual exchange program with Institution St. Joseph in Le Havre, France and the biennial exchange with L'Istituto Tecnico Commerciale e per Geometri "Piero Calamandrei" in Florence, Italy, the World Language Department will institute a new exchange program this fall with Russell-Newton school in Florence, Italy. This new exchange will allow Watterson students to host and travel to Italy every year instead of every other year.
The Russell-Newton school will send twenty students (18 girls, 2 boys) to Watterson from October 21st to November 2nd. The students will stay with Watterson families and attend school with their Watterson counterparts. They will also take day trips to area sites of cultural, historical, artistic, governmental and scientific interest as well as take in a Blue Jackets game and Watterson sporting events. Watterson students will then have the opportunity to return the visit later next year.
Since the group will be coming less than two months into the start of the school year, we are taking requests to host a student for the two week stay now. If you are interested in hosting and/or going to Italy, or would just like more information on the program, please send an e-mail to jdury@cdeducation.org. Note that the program is open to all Watterson students. Knowledge or study of Italian is not necessary to host or go to Italy. |
