Dear Eiber Neighbors and friends.
I'm William Spriggs and I am taking the lead for BIKE EIBER's Sustainability Program.
I live at 1201 Balsam Street in Lakewood, Co. 80214.
You do not have to be an Eiber Neighbor to take advantage of my tour offers.
However, late fall is upon us and instead of a regularly scheduled bike tour on Sunday mornings,  I will only take appointments for individuals, not groups.

October 17th, 2012

Dear Sustainable Eiber Neighbors and Friends.

This is Bill Spriggs here reporting on the second BIKE EIBER 'ambassador tour' and final group tour of the 2012 bike season of the West Rail Line from Lakewood Colorado, heading east toward downtown Denver. This was a combination leisurely bike ride and a data gathering event as yours truly was also collecting Google addresses for the light rail stations (see below) and to map out the best bike route to the Auraria Campus and return.

Unfortunately, I still have to report that the two short sections of the bike path route are still blocked from Harlan Street (6000 West) to Depew Street (5600 West) and also the path that the Tour de FasTracks took (on Sept 15, 2012) under the Sheridan Street Bridge which heads east and will connect to West Wells Place and on to the Perry Street Station is still not completed.

However consideralbe progress has been made since my last report.  We still decided to walk through this short section.

There is some good news to report: Lakewood City Council Member, Scott Koop, Ward 2, sent me a text message on October 10th, 2012:

"Just had it confirmed from two sources that Lakewood will be clearing snow from bike paths starting this winter."

Boston's Over The Top Bike Safety Campaign

By Angie Smith, Oct 15 2012
You've probably seen the anti-smoking ads that show a man exhaling through a hole in his windpipe. Not pretty, eh? Well, the Boston Public Health Commission seems to have borrowed a page from that campaign in a new appeal to cyclists regarding helmet use. Check out the ad they're using to promote protective headwear: a closeup of man with a serious case of road rash on his face

The Bike Helmet That Screams For Help in an Accident
By John Metcalfe, Oct 11 2012
The makers of this gadget, Tulsa-based ICEdot, say that it's activated only by the magnitude of impact that would require you to replace a helmet, anyway. And that's good, because it's a hassle having your headgear, whenever jostled, phone the authorities and your mom.

The Motor City's Fresh Take on the Urban Bikeway
By Angie Smith, Oct 10 2012
In central Detroit, on the site of a former railroad, there's a place just for bikes and pedestrians. In many ways, the Dequindre Cut is a cyclist's (or a jogger's) dream: a separated, below-grade bike path that at no point intersects with car traffic. It's wide enough for a two-way cycle track plus a path for pedestrians off to the side, so bicyclists and joggers don't have to compete for space. It goes right through the heart of the city, serving as a passage between two of Detroit's biggest attractions - the Riverfront and the Eastern Market.

The World's Weirdest Bikes (Photos)
By Amanda Erickson, Oct 17 2012
We've written about steam-powered bikes, bikes you ride by, well, running, and pole-mounted "bicycle elevators." Today, we pulled together a collection of bikes that would put those flashy cycles to shame. Courtesy of Reuters, here is a collection of truly eccentric peddlers.

Google Addresses of the West Rail Line's Stations
These will be used to create "time-it-takes-to-travel" times for cycling and walking to destinations -
i.e, Distance to The Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design from the Lamar Street Station.

Since the addresses below were collected from 'Kiss-n-Ride' Stations (no parking garages), I do believe that once the Park-n-Ride garages are completed, (such as in the Golden-Gov't Station), then that will be the Google address of the light rail station.
