President's Message

Dr. Edward T.A. Fry

Colleagues,

Legislation to repeal and fix the SGR, which has threatened patient access and the medical community for more than 15 years, is within reach. A bipartisan bill is being debated in Congress now. Your voice in supporting such action is valued by lawmakers as advocating on the behalf of patients and medical professionals nationwide.

Please visit the ACC Grassroots Action page at www.accadvocacy.org where you can access tools to communicate your position to your elected officials in Washington. In addition, or as an alternative, composing and sending a personal message to your U.S. Representative and both U.S. Senators goes a long way to demonstrating the importance of this legislation to your patients and colleagues.  Thank you.

Kind regards,

Edward T.A. Fry, MD, FACC

President

To help physicians avoid fraud and abuse, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has revised a web-based training course designed to provide education on the federal laws that combat fraud and abuse. The "Medicare Secondary Payer for Providers, Physicians, Other Suppliers, and Billing Staff" Fact Sheet, which provides education on the Medicare Secondary Payer provisions, has also been revised.

Make a Difference for Our Profession and Our Patients

Edward T.A. Fry, MD, FACC

As Governor of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, I would like to encourage you to join me in the fight to protect the future of cardiovascular care by joining the ACC Political Action Committee (ACCPAC).

The ACCPAC is the megaphone through which members are able to advocate on behalf of the communities we serve to ensure that regardless of the site or style of your practice, the ACC is a driving force in the ongoing healthcare debate.

Many of us would prefer to simply practice medicine and leave the politics out of it but the battle over issues such as medical training, research funding, and the practice and delivery of medicine is urgent and ongoing. As cardiovascular caregivers our first responsibility is to the health and welfare of our patients but we must recognize that this fight exists both in our offices and in the halls of Congress.  Now more than ever the ACC must stand up and make our voices heard to protect our patients and the future of our profession.

I am asking you to join your voice with other cardiovascular professionals and make a commitment to get engaged TODAY!  Only 6.5% of Indiana members contributed to the PAC last year, and we need your help to make our voices heard!

Joining ACCPAC is quick and easy. Click here or go to www.accpacweb.org to put your contribution to work immediately.  Simply login with your CardioSource access credentials and click Join the PAC.

Congress holds the future of cardiology in its hands. It is up to us to shape it.  Join me today, and make YOUR voice heard!
