MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We write to you with hope that you, your family and loved ones are safe from the storm and its aftermath and that this week marks a return to a sense of calm, even as we keep those still in need in our hearts and minds.
Because we have had so much stress in our lives
recently, I thought it would be appropriate to spend a little time thinking about the upcoming holidays, and sharing some simple tips on surviving them with grace and ease.
The following tips are from my good friend, Montclair mom and nutrition- lifestyle counselor Deborah Dunn. www.balanced-wellness.com I have already picked out a few that will make my life more joyful. I think you will too.
Self-care...when you find yourself moving through your day stressed and harried, remember to schedule some loving, caring activities for yourself...
- Take the time for a long, slow bath
- Sit quietly with a cup of tea, light some incense and a candle
- Watch an uplifting, fun movie
- Knit, read, do anything that feels like it's just for you
- Call a good friend you can laugh with
- Take a nap
- Do some breathing exercises and/or meditation
- Go to a yoga class or do your own practice at home
- Write in a gratitude journal before going to bed
Gift Giving/Receiving...
- Be clear about giving gifts. Why are you giving?
- Give yourself permission to not give presents if you wish not to
- Instead of a gift, make a date to spend time with a friend or family member
- If shopping is a challenge for you, remember the internet
- Make gifts or pass on things you no longer use that are perfectly good
- Instead of buying a gift, think of getting tickets to a show or preparing a special meal
Enjoy the holidays knowing that taking care of yourself allows you also to take care o those around you.
Best wishes,
Joanne, Karen, Alex and Bette
