June 2017
Thanks Dad!

Fathers and Grandfathers are a valuable lot. These regional directors from across the country gathered to talk about our work and ministry, but we also realize that one of our most important jobs is influencing the disciples in our immediate family. Our kids and grandkids. Making disciples is a lifetime job.

It is impossible to over-estimate the importance of dads. For example, girls who have good relationships with their fathers tend to do better in math, and boys who have actively involved fathers tend to have better grades and perform better on achievement tests. Some have indicated that fathers are as important as mothers in their respective roles as caregivers, protectors, financial supporters, and most importantly, models for social and emotional behavior. Dads are a big deal. We have a wonderful heavenly FATHER who is our ultimate role model. Forgiving, kind, tenderhearted, just, available and more. This Father's day, if you can, make the worship day at church a great day for fathers. Celebrate their worth and value. Have fun.

To all you fathers, know you are very valuable. Thanks for the good you do. "Never get tired of doing good."  (2 Thes. 3:13). People notice.

Invitation from WorldVenture
Jeff and Christine Denlinger
WorldVenture began in 1943 as the Conservative Baptist Foreign Missionary Society, followed a few years later by the formation of CBAmerica. WV continues to desire to have a close relationship with churches affiliated with Pacific Church Network and other CB regions. Jeff Denlinger, current President of WorldVenture, is inviting churches who support WorldVenture and their missionaries to affirm the WorldVenture Board Members for the 2017-18 term.

Please follow this link during the period of June 14 - 28, to participate. The link will not be active until June 14. https://www.worldventure.com/vote/

Illuminate: Youth Camp in August
This year's topic will be Illuminate, based on Acts 13:47. We'll be discussing why it's important to share the Light with others, and how we can do that effectively. Join other youth groups for this amazing youth retreat up in the San Bernardino Mountains!
It will be August 18-20, 2017 at Pine Summit Camp and Conference Center in Big Bear, CA. All youth ages 13 and up are welcome. Cost is $129.
Spanish Free Workshop: Wounded and Restored
The church is to be a healing community. Healing relationships is more complex than healing most physical ailments. If God can take a fallen saint like Peter and restore him back to fellowship and service, then that is what He wants of us today. We teach it, and believe it, but sometimes it's hard to practice it. This very needed workshop will encourage us to do what we should do.

Encourage your Spanish-speaking church leaders to attend.

National Day of Prayer Inside Look
The National Day of Prayer 2017 was a time for celebration. This year's theme was 'For Your Great Name's Sake! Hear Us, Forgive Us, Heal Us.' Numerous ceremonies and events took place, including the signing of an executive order and a new interaction with President Trump. Hear Greg Laurie and Dr. Dobson recount the positive, history-making events and explore how they will impact future generations.
Executive Order signed on the Day of Prayer
On May 4, the National Day of Prayer, President Donald Trump signed an executive order calling on federal agencies to operate with respect to Americans' freedoms of speech and religion. In a White House Rose Garden ceremony, Trump combined the traditional signing of the National Day of Prayer proclamation with the executive order. This is a start to fulfill Trump's campaign pledge to repeal the Johnson Amendment-something only Congress can do. It calls on the Internal Revenue Service to refrain from taking adverse action against "individual, house of worship, or other religious organizations" on the basis of speech that could be deemed political."

Who's Changing the Culture in America?
According to a new American Culture and Faith Institute study, the types of organizations viewed as those responsible for the greatest degree of positive change in 2016 were churches (noted by 47%); families (19%); and non-profit organizations (14%). On the other hand, the types of organizations viewed as least productive in bringing about positive cultural change were the news media (34%); the federal government (27%); and the arts and entertainment media (17%). Entities generally considered to not be significantly involved in cultural change, for better or worse, included large and small business, public schools, state and local governments, courts, healthcare industry, and military. Topping the list of organizations believed to have been most effective at leading positive cultural change in the U.S. during 2016 were the American Center for Law & Justice (chosen by 35%) and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (named by 33%). Samaritan's Purse (29%), American Family Association (27%), Focus on the Family (23%), and the Family Research Council (22%) were the next most recognized organizations.

Quiet Catastrophe
Christianity Today recently reviewed an interesting perspective on phones. Tony Reinke's book, 12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You (Crossway 2017) catalogues the quiet catastrophe he believes our phones are causing.

For instance:

We're distracted. We check our smartphone 85,000 times a year, or once every 13 minutes.

We're a hazard to others. Texting and driving makes us 23 times more likely to get in a car accident.

We crave approval. Each social media moment is another scene in our "incessant...
