Graduation Parties
It seems like there are graduations every week this time of year.  Our family has had our share of them this spring.  My grandson Jackson graduated (yes, that is what they called it) from kindergarten last week.  They even had a ceremony.  Two other graduations occurred that honored two more men in our extended family with their graduations from seminary.  Quite the accomplishments. Andy, my son, graduated from Westminster Seminary and Eric Durso, my son-in-law graduated from Masters Seminary, both with Masters of Divinity. I am proud of all my graduates, and look forward to what God has for them in the future.  Of course we had a party for them. Recognition is good to do when you have the opportunity. Paul wrote "For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.' (1 Cor. 16:18 NIV) There is a time for us to honor and recognize others and their accomplishments. The Message says it well from Luke 15:10 "Count on it-that's the kind of party God's angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God."  There is a time to party, so celebrate those accomplishments that bring glory to God.

Celebrate well

Response Church was planted by Pacific Church Network last year, and recently their Pastor, Joel Webbon wrote that they "just had 15 more people become members of the church. Three of them were conversions and will be baptized soon. We also had 103 people at our service this past Sunday, which is really great considering that our students are already gone for the summer. Brighter, Less Expensive Lights

Recently pastor Paul Taylor told us that his church, Montebello Christian Fellowship, had all their lights replaced with LED lights by Southern California Edison for almost free, just pay the tax (which was about $1 per bulb).  San Antonio Heights Community Church called and Edison came out and replaced all 136 chandelier bulbs in their sanctuary and 75 other lights around the church.  It will reduce our electric bill and definitely give our rooms more light.  It worked for these two Pacific Church Network churches.  If you are interested,  call Armando Solorzano at Golden Gadgets, Energy Saving Solutions, at 562.879.7321 or email him at Armando.Solorzano.SR@gmail.com.

Commerce Church Growing

Ken Wallace, missionary with Missions Door, has been working with First Baptist Church as the Interim pastor.  Through his ability to communicate to the leadership, the church family and neighborhood, God has blessed his work in recent months.  On Mother's Day they had 60 people in their worship service, which is a significant increase.  He has asked Felix Vadlamar to also come help start a Spanish speaking congregation at the church, which will start in June.  We are so excited about the positive things that are happening in Commerce.
How Not to Fail in Leadership

Few of us enter our careers already skilled in the art of leadership. We spend our early career years learning (and often failing) to become great leaders. Many never become great leaders, often because they fail to invest the time and discipline to grow in this area. But it doesn't have to be this way. It took me ten years to learn the following leadership keys. If you study and practice, you can learn these three keys for not failing in leadership starting now.
If you are a leader of any kind in an organization, these three keys are essential to excellent leadership. Ignore any one of these components and enjoy your ride as a mediocre (at best) leader. Commit and live by these three keys and watch your leadership thrive.

Nothing Better

I always look forward to the beginning of June BECAUSE it is Jim's and my anniversary and we have always celebrated it (for 38 years now!)  For some reason every year our anniversary comes at a time when we both need a break!    It is great to take some scheduled time to relax and regroup and focus on the important, rather than the urgent!!   There is nothing better than to spend time together, rest together and experience new adventures together every June. read more
