New Births
Royal Baby George arrived and made many headlines around the world. Someone wrote on their facebook page, "Wouldn't it be awesome if the arrival of every child was as valued and celebrated as the "royal birth" ... Regardless of its lineage?" Well, lineage does make a difference, doesn't it. The good thing is that all of us can be of royal birth if we enter into the family of God by faith in Jesus! Then each spiritual birth is even more of a celebration. Jesus said, "there is joy in the presence of God's angels when even one sinner repents." (Luke 15:10) With people believing in Jesus all the time, heaven must be a continual party. Well, congratulations to the royal family and to all those who also have upcoming births. All births are special. I have 4 kids, 4 grandkids and 2 more grandkids on the way! We celebrate them all. Physical births bring joy, but spiritual births even more so. Planting churches is a powerful way our association is attempting to reach more people for Christ. Join us in prayer and financial support as we look to plant 4 more churches next year!

CB Board Excited About New Vision On Tuesday, August 27, CB Southern California's board approved a new vision and re-branding plan for our association. These changes are the result of much prayer, conversation, and counsel. We believe that these changes position our association for a long future of gospel impact in Southern California and beyond. Our goal is to partner with you to plant 76 new churches by the year 2026. That is 76 by 26! This all kicks off in January of 2014. We are thrilled to announce that we have already identified some dynamic church planters to support for 2014. Please consider allocating a portion of your budget to church planting in 2014. Remember that church planting is a very effective way to reach people for Christ! Churches have already increased their giving to help us in our church planting efforts. Calvary Baptist in Huntington Beach has increased their giving by $12,000 and Apple Valley Baptist has increased their giving to $15,000 a year. Two other churches have pledged $20,000 and $25,000 respectively. We will have a free Vision lunch for our pastors on November 6 where we will be announcing several more significant changes for our new network going forward. We are excited to continue to partner with you in ministry and to be a part of kingdom expansion! |

Still Time to Help
Many travel across the ocean to help churches on mission trips, but we thought we should also travel a few hours north to help one of our own churches. On September 13-15, CB is assisting our small church in Independence, Sierra Baptist Church, with some of their construction needs. Painting, landscaping and finishing a patio outside of the church would really help bless Pastor Perry White and his wife Sally. Calvary Baptist Whittier and Calvary Baptist Bishop are planning to send some help, but there's still time to add you or your church group to the work crew. Please contact our CB office at 909-944-5900 or info@cbasc.com.Cost is minimal and the appreciation is great.

Journey of Faith Bellflower now Independent
In 2008, Bellflower merged with Journey of Faith Manhattan Beach to form a two-campus ministry. The Bellflower campus adopted the missional vision of the Manhattan Beach church to Make, Mature and Mobilize disciples. After years of working together to strengthen the church, the Bellflower campus became an independent church as of July 1st. Campus Pastor Joseph Fiktarz is the now Lead Pastor of Journey of Faith Bellflower. |
Hispanic Youth Successful Summer Retreat
About 50 leaders and students gathered up at Pine Summit for a summer retreat called Onset last month. This was their first attempt at putting together an event for many of the Hispanic youth from 5 CB Hispanic churches. The retreat was in English, and they felt it was a huge success. The youth had a great time, including participating in outdoor activities like the climbing wall and a massive squirt gun game. Many thanks to Joshua Davalos and his team for putting this event together. Rolman Mazariegos of our church, Iglesia Bautista El Calvario, in Santa Barbara was the main speaker for the event. |

Hope Again Scholarships Needed
Executive Director Ross Lokken of Hope Again would love to send a van full of people up to our retreats this fall. Hope Again is a Christian ministry to the needy in the Hollywood area. Every year, they provide a weekend of spiritual renewal at the women's and men's retreats at Pine Summit, sponsored by CB Southern California. Could you provide the funds for someone to attend the retreats? If so, please contact our office at info@cbasc.com. |
We have recommended Brotherhood Mutual Insurance for your insurance needs. Brotherhood offers excellent insurance coverage for your church and as an added benefit, Brotherhood gives proportionally to the regional office based on the churches that participate. CBSC should be shown on all policies, whether Brotherhood or not. The reason for this is because when churches are sued, denominational offices are regularly brought into the suits, even though there is no involvement by the denominational office. By naming CBSC as Additional Insured (no charge for this), the individual church is protecting CBSC for the first $1,000,000 and not affecting other churches working within CBSC. If you are with Brotherhood, you will notice that CB Southern California is on the form. This will not affect your insurance rates, but it does help Brotherhood identify you as a CB church and part of our affiliation program.
