Bus Needed to Rent
bus

Temple Baptist Church in Perris, CA needs help to get their youth group to Northern California for camp this summer, August 4-9. They anticipate needing transportation for 40-50 people. If your church has a bus or van/s that Temple Baptist could borrow for this purpose, they would greatly appreciate the help. Please contact Connor Smith at 910-224-8119 or smitty2200@yahoo.com.

Thank you!

Websites

We just completed the first stage of improving our own website.

We would encourage you to update your website, or for some churches, get one. It is the primary way new people look for churches these days. Not having a website compares to not having your church in the phone book in days gone by.

Here are some companies that can help you start creating a website of your own for a reasonable price:

wix.com

squarespace.com

We welcome you to visit our new CBSC website from your mobile or other device: cbasc.com.

Pastors' Kids

It is exciting to see my kids grow up--taking on responsibilities and raising their own families. I recently heard Pastor Pat Cottrell say that although he loves his 9 grandkids, he will always get more enjoyment in watching his 11 children mature, grow and become all they can be in the Lord. He invested lots of time, instruction, counsel, money, discipline, coaching, demonstration, prayer and more time into his kids. As the Lord said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt.6:21)  I am glad Pat's heart focused on his kids during his 20 plus years at Calvary Baptist in Huntington Beach. Like Pat, I too love watching my kids grow and develop. I am proud of them. All of them are active in their faith and serving in the church.

Being a pastor's kid is tough. According to the article entitled, You're a Pastor's Kid, Why aren't You Crazy?, "eighty percent of adult children of pastors surveyed have had to seek professional help for depression. Pastor's kids (PK's) rarely stay in the church or keep their faith. Eighty percent of pastors believe pastoral ministry has negatively affected their families. Many pastor's children do not attend church now because of what the church has done to their parents."  Wow.

Now, some kids just rebel, even with loving parents. However, it seems like time, affection and attention to our kids is a key ingredient for a healthy relationship. One PK (in the above referenced article) mentioned this, "I think one of the biggest reasons PK's get so rebellious is that they don't really have a Dad-they have a live-in, full-time pastor who treats his kids more like a member of his congregation. Everyone needs a father. And despite my Dad spending massive amounts of time and energy investing in leaders and congregations in ministry for my entire life, I never felt like he neglected me as his son. In fact, on the contrary, I felt loved by him in a way that a father ought to love his son, even as he loves others as their pastor. I am glad my Dad is a pastor, but I'm more thankful that he is always just my Dad."

It is important for all of us dads to give our kids time. Although I only had my dad for 22 years before the Lord took him home, I am glad my Dad (who was an associate pastor all my life) spent time with me. I always remember the vacations we faithfully took every summer and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey game he allowed my brother and I to attend on a Sunday night! Thanks Dad.

Dads, thanks for just being there, just being a dad and giving your time by watching your kids grow up. Give your kids your time.

Happy Father's Day

CB Church Multiplication
Brian Howard
As I write this, I am encouraged that a long journey has finally come to completion. Our family is settling back into California and excited to be moving into a house in the next couple of weeks. We spent our first few weeks in an RV looking for a place to live and are thrilled to see that era come to an end!

On the job, my first few weeks have been busy and fruitful. I have spent time preaching in CB Churches, meeting with CB Church leadership teams and connecting with many CB pastors. I have also crafted a vision for Church Multiplication that will kick off with four new Church Plants in January of 2014. Conversations have taken place with several men who desire to plant CB Churches. There is much more to come in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Chuck McCament
Announces
Retirement
chuck
Pastor Chuck of the San Antonio Heights Community Church in Upland, CA, announced his retirement last month. He has been at SAHCC for eight years, faithfully teaching the Word and leading the church as they were able to complete construction on a new multipurpose building. Chuck and his wife, Laurie, will be heading up to Oregon to a home they own in the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Much to their delight, their SoCal house sold within days of being on the market, and for slightly more than the asking price. San Antonio Heights will also say goodbye to their Administrative Director of 30 years, Nita Brock. Their Youth Pastor, Matt Shool, will now become the Associate Pastor, and the church has asked CB to assist them in finding an Interim Pastor.

We will especially miss Chuck, Laurie and Nita here at CB Southern California, since our office is located within the offices of SAHCC. Chuck graciously invited us to move our offices here during our financial crisis and encouraged us to stay after we sold the camp. We will miss his sweet spirit and warm personality around our office.

Educators Forum
We are encouraging all public school educators to attend an informative seminar on Saturday morning, June 15, at the Calvary Chapel in Montebello--cost is only $10. Learn how to confidently teach about Judeo-Christian history, culture and values across the curriculum! Seminar topics will include:

1. How the idea of separation of Church and State applies and doesn't apply to your classroom
2. Your state academic standards expect students to learn about the Bible and Christianity
3. Courts support teaching students about the Bible and Christianity - including religious aspects of holidays
4. Practical lesson ideas you can use immediately in your classroom

PLUS, each participant receives a CD full of materials. Understand the 4 key principles to move from fear to freedom in your classroom! While many educators feel comfortable teaching students about various world religions, the same is not necessarily true when it comes to the Bible and Christianity.
